"Mr. Saxobeat" is a song by Romanian recording artist Alexandra Stan from her debut studio album Saxobeats (2011). "Mr. Saxobeat" is an up-tempo Eurodance song with house elements. The song contains a love message, where Stan speaks of a man she is attracted to and the way he makes her move. It was written by Andrei Nemirschi and Marcel Prodan a Romanian producing-duo and produced by the latter one at the Maan Studios in Romania. It was firstly released under Maan Music Label and then internationally under Columbia Records.

It shortly became a global hit. At first it conquered Romania where it spent eight straight weeks at number-one. It has then expanded to Spain, France, Belgium and shortly after all through Europe (becoming a top five all over the countries, excluding France and Ireland and it was even a number-one hit in at least ten charts). It has then entered the top thirty of the Canadian Hot 100 and ultimately on the Billboard Hot 100. Moreover, it entered the top five in New Zealand and the top twenty in Australia.

An accompanying music video was shot in MediaPro Studios, Buftea in order to promote the song. It shows Stan being arrested, thrown in jail, and seducing a guard to escape. The song was also the first million-selling single in Romania.[2] The song was featured on the sixth episode of the first season of the American sitcom Suburgatory entitled "Charity Case".

Background [link]

Alexandra Stan released her debut single "Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)". After the release of the song and its music video, Stan met with general negative reviews and feedback from music critics and audience. Stan and her personnel decided to make a new song to become at least a moderate hit. By midsummer 2010, Stan recorded three songs during a recording session at the Maan Studios in Bucharest, Romania. One of the songs to be recorded was "Mr. Saxobeat". It debuted in late-summer and it has then became a huge hit in Romania by the end of the year. After the inland success, Stan decided to sign a record contract with various international record labels, including Columbia Records. "Mr. Saxobeat" was strongly promoted in Belgium, France and Spain. After the extraordinary success of the song in mainland Europe, Stan released the song in the United Kingdom too. It was then released in North America, Latin America and finally in Australasia.

Composition [link]

"Mr. Saxobeat" is an up-tempo dance song with strong elements of house and Hi-NRG. The song features a saxophone throughout and uses some trance beats. It was produced by Romanian record producer Marcel Prodan, and American producers Trendtraxx, while composition responsibilities were co-handled by the songwriting team of Prodan and André Nemirschi. It was recorded during summer 2010 at the Maan Studios, panned by the duo. It lasts for three minutes and sixteen seconds in the album version, while radio edits have various lengths. The song is set to the key of B minor and Stan's voice spans three octaves.

Lyrically, the song is about Stan trying to attract a man whom she is in love with. She speaks of him making her dance and "move like a freak". It is structured in a chorus repeated four times troughout, a verse and an epilogue. Stan cited, in an interview in Austria that the title "Mr. Saxobeat" makes references to "sex" (as in sex-o-beat) as she is stating: "I consider saxophone a very hot and sexy instrument which is also very used in my region". Also she says that this "Mr. Saxobeat" is only her vision on the perfect man, whom she declares to have never met.

Europe [link]

The song was a massive success in Stan's home country, Romania. There, "Mr. Saxobeat" reached the top ten of the official Airplay chart (Romanian Top 100) on November 14, 2010. In less than a month, on December 12, it hit the top spot of the chart, where it settled for eight weeks. It has became the longest running number-one in Romania in the 2010s. In Spain it debuted at number forty-seven in the singles chart, and then peaked at number-three on May 22. After eleven weeks within the top 10, the song achieved the PROMUSICAE Gold certification for sales of more than 20,000 units. In France, the song debuted and peaked at number six on the Digital Chart, before dropping off the next week. With the appearance of a new chart, the French Top Singles & Titres Chart, the song debuted at number ten in its first week and defended its position another two weeks, before peaking at number six. In the Sales-Only Chart, "Saxobeat" peaked inside the top five, in the last position; In the French Airplay Top 250 it has peaked at number-one and stuck to the top spot for another two weeks.

The song also peaked on the Czech Airplay Chart at number-two, in the Slovak Airplay Chart at number-one for over five weeks, in the Greek IFPI Chart at number six and in the Finnish Singles Chart at number-twenty in its opening week in the top. Then it has reached the second position as well as in the rest of northic countries: Norway and Sweden. In Belgium, the song ran-up for a week (peaking at#2) in the Ultratop 40 and reached the top five in the Ultratop 50. In the Netherlands, it has entered the Dutch Top 40, spending numerous weeks at number-two. It has peaked at number-one in the Swiss Singles Chart, in Germany, Austria, Italy and Denmark. It has also been released in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. "Mr. Saxobeat" became Stan's first British hit single, climbing up the charts during April 2011 and debuting at number 81 before peaking at number 3 in June 2011,[3] while also reaching number 2 on the regional chart of Scotland.[4] In the Republic of Ireland, it peaked at number-six.

North America [link]

Outside Europe, "Mr. Saxobeat" charted on the Canadian Hot 100, debuting at number seventy-two. The next week, the song dropped towards the ninety-fifth position, but then climbed fifty-four positions to forty-one, becoming that week's greatest gainer, before moving to thirty-seven the following week. It defended the position for the next week. Eventually, "Mr. Saxobeat" peaked at number-twenty-five. It has then climbed down the chart, until leaving it forever. It spent twenty weeks within the Hot 100 and became one of the biggest-selling single of the year not to enter the top twenty. It was eventually certified Platinum by Music Canada.

In the United States, the song was digitally released in early 2011, selling over 200,000 units. However, as of July 21, 2011, the song entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching the top eighty in the third week on the chart. It finally peaked at number twenty-one. It has also entered the Hot 100 Airplay, being a top twenty there with over 200,000,000 impressions. Inside the Pop Songs Top 40 it peaked at number-nineteen. It became the third Romanian song to enter the top ten of the Hot Dance Airplay (behind Inna's "Hot" and Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina's "Stereo Love"), as it has peaked at number-one within that chart for seven weeks in two runs, becoming the longest run atop this chart in 2011 and since 2009. It reached the top twenty (#11) of the Latin Pop Airplay and the same position on the Hot Latin Tracks. It debuted at number thirty-nine within the Hot Dance Club Songs and moved a few positions towards the top thirty in the following weeks, before dropping downwards. It has also received strong airplay in South American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, as well as in Mexico. In Brasil Hot Dance Club Songs, it peaked at number-one, whilst in the Mexican Charts it entered the top ten.

Australasia [link]

In Australia, Alexandra's song first charted inside the Dance Chart, where it managed to enter the top ten as peaking at number-six. A week after entering the Dance Chart, it charted in the Singles Chart as well, debuting at thirty-two. It then fell off the chart to re-enter the following week straight at a new peak of number thirty-two. After bounding back and forth on the chart, it managed to peak at number-nineteen, thus giving Stan a top-twenty hit in Australia. Then it was certified Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The song debuted at number thirty-six in New Zealand on August 1, 2011 and continued rising upon the charts until peaking within the top ten, at number-four. It became the first Eastern European act to have a top-fie single in New Zealand ever. It was finally certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand. In Asia the song was a number-one on the Israeli Airplay Chart a top-ten in the Lebanese Singles Chart and on the Indian Digital Chart. In early 2012, the song also entered the Japan Hot 100 straight at number-nine. It is still yet to enter the Gaon Chart in South Korea.

A music video for "Mr. Saxobeat" was filmed in the MediaPro Studios during October, 2010. The official making-of the video premiered in early November on 1Music Channel. The music video for the song was released on November 15, 2010.[5] It features Stan being arrested, interviewed by the police, put in jail and then escaping from prison.

The video begins with scenes of police officers bringing a handcuffed Stan into a room of a police station to interrogate her along with two of her friends. When the police realize that Stan and her friends won't talk, they place them in a jail cell. Stan coaxes and successfully seduces the guard ("hey sexy boy play with me ...") while her friends steal his police equipment (pistol, handcuffs, baton etc.), before locking him inside the cell while she and her friends escape. The group enters a dressing room where they find police outfits and disguise themselves as officers. Then they locate the chief's office and hold the police chief and other workers at gun point while duct taping their mouths and hands to the chief's desk. Stan and her friends exit the office and walk inconspicuously through the front lobby and out of the building.

Moby

Richard Melville Hall (born September 11, 1965), better known by his stage name Moby, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, DJ and photographer. He is well known for his electronic music, vegan lifestyle, and support of animal rights. Moby has sold over 20 million albums worldwide.AllMusic considers him "one of the most important dance music figures of the early 1990s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in the UK and in America".

Moby gained attention in the early 1990s with his electronic dance music work, which experimented in the techno and breakbeat hardcore genres. With his fifth studio album, the electronica and house music-influenced Play, he gained international success. Originally released in mid-1999, the album sold 6,000 copies in its first week, and it re-entered the charts in early 2000 and became an unexpected hit, producing eight singles and selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Moby followed the album in 2002 with 18, which was also successful, selling over 5 million copies worldwide and receiving mostly positive reviews, though some criticized it for being too similar to Play.

Moby (programming language)

The Moby programming language is an experiment in computer programming, design and implementation.The Moby project started out as a testbed for the design of ML2000.

Moby is primarily a collaboration between Kathleen Fisher and John Reppy. Much of the work on Moby was done while John Reppy was an MTS at Bell Labs in the Computing Sciences Research Center.
