Ohio Players

The Ohio Players were an American funk and R&B band, most popular in the 1970s. They are best known for their songs "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster".

Gold certifications, records selling at least one million copies, were awarded to the singles "Funky Worm", "Skin Tight", "Fire", and "Love Rollercoaster"; plus to their albums Skin Tight, Fire, and Honey.

On August 17, 2013, The Ohio Players were inducted into the inaugural class of the Official R&B Music Hall of Fame that took place at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.

History

The band formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1959 as the Ohio Untouchables and initially included members Robert Ward (vocals/guitar), Marshall "Rock" Jones (bass), Clarence "Satch" Satchell (saxophone/guitar), Cornelius Johnson (drums), and Ralph "Pee Wee" Middlebrooks (trumpet/trombone). They were best known at the time as a backing group for The Falcons.

Ward had proved to be an unreliable leader, who would sometimes, during gigs, walk off the stage, forcing the group to stop playing. Eventually, the group vowed to keep playing even after he left. Ward and Jones got into a fistfight in 1964, after which the group broke up.

Mr. Mean (album)

Mr. Mean is the 13th album by The Ohio Players, and the 7th album recorded for Mercury. The band's roster grew, this time from eight to nine members with the entrance of Robert "C.D." Jones on congas.

With the band's popularity higher than ever, the Ohio Players were asked by actor Fred Williamson to create music for a movie of the same name he was writing and directing. Some sessions for the album were recorded, like previous albums, at Paragon Recording Studio in Chicago, but this project brought them into Los Angeles for the first time to record music. The songs were a departure from the mid-tempo funk and soul they were becoming known for, especially compared to the album they released months before, Angel. The group placed a greater emphasis in incorporating more ballads and jazz of the Quiet storm variety.

The music was made for the sole purpose of it being used for a movie, perhaps the reason why it felt like a departure from their previous work, but fans and critics reacted to it with mixed opinions.

  • Ohio (Stalley album)

Ohio is the debut studio album by American rapper Stalley. The album was released on October 27, 2014, by Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records. The album features guest appearances from Nipsey Hussle, Rick Ross, August Alsina, Ty Dolla Sign, Rashad and De La Soul. The album was supported by the singles "Always Into Something", "Jackin' Chevys" and "One More Shot".

    Background

In July 2012, Stalley announced he had begun recording his debut album, saying: "We're workin' on an album right now. I'm in the studio. I just got in there about a week ago, so it's a whole big process. Right now, I'm thinking maybe top of the year would be the album. I definitely just take [Rick Ross and Wale's] energy, and I definitely watch their energy and watch how they do things. I'm very observant of how they set up their albums and set up their singles and things like that, being that it's all new to me. That's great company to keep and great people to watch."

On August 22, 2014, he announced the album would be titled Ohio in a vlog, saying: "The sound of my current music is intelligent truck music. It’s a sound that’s built for the cars. But you can also enjoy it in your headphones, your computer or however you want to listen to it. Me, growing up, I rode around listening to music. It was kind of like the soundtrack my days or wherever I was going."

    Ohio (Over the Rhine album)

Ohio is a double studio album, their seventh overall, by Over the Rhine, released in 2003. The album was released as both a double CD and limited edition double vinyl LP set.

One additional song from these sessions, "Last Night On Earth Again" was released on the Discount Fireworks compilation, albeit in a re-recorded version.

    Try a Little Tenderness

    by: Ohio Players

    Oh she may be weary
Them young girls they do get wearied
Wearing that same old miniskirt dress
    But when she gets weary
    You try a little tenderness
    Oh man that
    Un hunh
    I know shes waiting
    Just anticipating
The thing that youl never never possess
    No no no
    But while she there waiting
Try just a little bit of tenderness
Thats all you got to do
Now it might be a little bit sentimental no
But she has her greavs and care
But the soft words they are spoke so gentle
    Yeah yeah yeah
And it makes it easier to bear
    Oh she wont regret it
    No no
Them young girls they dont forget it
    Love is their whole happiness
    Yeah yeha yeah
    But its all so easy
All you got to do is try
    Try a little tenderness
    Yeah
    Damn that hart (hard?)
All you got to do is know how to love her
    You've got to
    Hold her
    Squeeze her
    Never leave her
    Now get to her
Got got got to try a little tenderness
    Yeah yeah
    Lord have mercy now
All you got to do is take my advice
    You've got to hold her
    Don't squeeze her
    Never leave her
    You've got to hold her
    And never
So you got to try a little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    You've got to
    Got to got to
    You've gotta hold her
    Don't squeeze her
    Never leaver her
    You got
    Got got got to
    Now now now
    Got got got to
    Try a little tenderness
    Ye
