Moosomin is a word borrowed from the Cree language meaning low-bush cranberry or squash berry (Viburnum edule).
Moosomin was a territorial electoral district in Northwest Territories, Canada that came into existence by Royal Proclamation in 1885 and was abolished when Alberta and Saskatchewan were created in 1905.
The electoral district was mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. The electoral district was named after the town of Moosomin, Northwest Territories and the town's name sake Chief Moosomin, a well known leader of the Cree in the late 19th century.<ref name"namesake">"Dictionary of Canadian Biography Moosomin". Moosomin is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southeastern Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905.
Represented by former speaker Don Toth, it is arguably one of the most conservative ridings in the province – having never elected a member of the CCF or NDP.
The largest centre in the constituency is the town of Moosomin. Other towns in the district include Grenfell, Kipling, Montmartre, Broadview, Whitewood, Rocanville and Wolseley.
