Monteverde

Monteverde, Costa Rica is a small community in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, located in the Cordillera de Tilarán. Roughly a four hour drive from the Central Valley, Monteverde is considered a major ecotourism destination in Costa Rica. The area is host to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and numerous other reserves, which draw considerable numbers of tourists and naturalists.

National Geographic has called the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve "the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves".Newsweek has declared Monteverde the world's #14 Place to Remember Before it Disappears." By popular vote in Costa Rica, Monteverde was enshrined as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica, along with Isla del Coco, Volcán Arenal, Cerro Chirripó, Río Celeste, Tortuguero, and Volcán Poás.

Monteverde, Lazio

Monteverde is a district of Rome (part of Gianicolense quarter) Italy. It is located just outside the Aurelian walls, south of the Gianicolo and southeast of Trastevere. Monteverde means 'green mountain' and is named after the hill that the district is located on. This hill is not one of the seven hills of Rome as it is outside the classical city.

Overview

Monteverde is usually divided in two parts, Monteverde Vecchio, a mostly early 20th century neighbourhood of stately villas, and Monteverde Nuovo, most of which consists of semi-highrises, constructed in the second half of the 20th century.

Monteverde is a residential area outside of Rome's historical centre. The main attraction is Villa Doria Pamphili (sometimes with the final long i orthography, Pamphilj), which used to be private property of the Pamphili family, but is now a public park, the largest in Rome.

Monteverde is home to The American University of Rome as well as the American Academy in Rome and its related undergraduate program, the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies.
