Mokena is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,583 at the 2000 census, with a special census conducted in 2007. The 2007 census showed that the population of the village increased to 18,669 people residing within the corporate limits. As of the 2010 Census the population was 18,740 people
Mokena is a name derived from a Native American language meaning "turtle".

According to the 2010 census, Mokena has a total area of 8.893 square miles (23.03 km2), of which 8.89 square miles (23.02 km2) (or 99.97%) is land and 0.003 square miles (0.01 km2) (or 0.03%) is water.
Mokena is served by Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210, students attend Lincoln-Way East High School, Lincoln-Way Central High School, and Lincoln-Way North High School. Elementary school services are provided by one of four school districts: Mokena School District 159, New Lenox School District 122, Frankfort School District 157C, and Summit Hill School District 161. Schools within District 159 include MES (Mokena Elementary School), MIS (Mokena Intermediate School), and MJHS (Mokena Junior High School). Higher education is provided through Joliet Junior College, the nation's first public community college, and through Rasmussen College.
Mokena is one of two commuter rail stations along Metra's Rock Island District line in Mokena, Illinois. The station is located on Front Street and Mokena Street east of Wolf Road, and is 29.6 miles (47.6 km) away from LaSalle Street, the northern terminus of the line. In Metra's fare-based system, Mokena is in zone F.
Unlike Hickory Creek to the east, Mokena has a waiting room and a ticket agency window. Parking is available on Front Street between Wolf Road and Mokena Street, as well as on the northwest corner of McGovney Street and Mokena Street. Additional parking can be found further northwest on Willow Crest Lane off of Wolf Road, and at the Village Hall to the northeast on the corners of Division, Third, and Carpenter Streets. Currently, no bus connections are available at the station.
There are two tracks at this station. On weekdays between 5 am and 2 pm trains from Chicago run on track 2 and trains to Chicago run on track 1. After 2 pm trains from Chicago run on track 1 and trains to Chicago run on track 2. On weekends all trains run on track 1, unless announced otherwise.
