Modern Family (season 5)

On May 10, 2013, Modern Family was renewed for a fifth season. The first episode, "Suddenly Last Summer", which premiered on September 25, 2013, on ABC, made reference to the newly legalized same-sex marriage in California. The writers said that a wedding for Mitch and Cam was a "real possibility". In January 2014, it was announced that Modern Family's vacation episode would take place in Australia this season.

Modern Family

Modern Family (stylized as modern family) is an American television mockumentary that premiered on ABC on September 23, 2009, which follows the lives of Jay Pritchett and his family, all of whom live in suburban Los Angeles. Pritchett's family includes his second wife, his stepson, and infant son, as well as his two adult children and their spouses and children. Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan conceived the series while sharing stories of their own "modern families". Modern Family employs an ensemble cast. The series is presented in mockumentary style, with the fictional characters frequently talking directly into the camera. The series premiered on September 23, 2009 and was watched by 12.6 million viewers.

On October 8, 2009, the series was picked up for a full season. It was renewed for second and third seasons in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Season 3 premiered on September 21, 2011, with a one-hour special episode. fourth season premiered on September 26, 2012 whereas fifth season premiered on September 25, 2013. The sixth season was ordered in 2014, by ABC, which premiered on on September 24, 2014. The series was renewed for its seventh season on May 7, 2015 which premiered on September 23, 2015.

Modern Family (season 1)

The first season of the television comedy series Modern Family aired between September 23, 2009, and May 19, 2010, on ABC in the United States. The season was produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Lloyd-Levitan Productions with series creators Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan as executive producers.

The series focuses on Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and his son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who live in Los Angeles. Claire is a homemaker mom married to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell); they have three children. Jay is married to a much younger Colombian woman, Gloria (Sofía Vergara), and is helping her raise her pre-teen son, Manny. Mitchell and his partner Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) have adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily (twins Ella Hiller and Jaden Hiller). Season one of Modern Family aired Wednesdays in the United States at 9 p.m. and consisted of 24 episodes.

The season received critical acclaim from most critics, many of whom named it the best new show of 2009. The episode "Fizbo" received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, with BuddyTV naming it the second best show of 2009. It was nominated for 14 Emmy Awards; eight Primetime Emmy Awards and six Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the most nominations for a comedy series after Glee and 30 Rock. The series was also a ratings success and the first season averaged 9.39 million viewers for all 24 episodes. The ratings led to ABC renewing the series for a second season mid-way through the first. The first season DVD and Blu-ray Disc box set was released on September 21, 2010.
