Zinc 101.9

Zinc 101.9 (callsign: 4MMK) is a classic rock-formatted commercial radio station in Mackay, Queensland. Owned and operated by Grant Broadcasters, the station was previously owned by Prime Media Group, until Prime's radio assets were sold to Grant Broadcasters in 2013.

History

Zinc FM was launched in 1999 as 4MK-FM, with an adult contemporary format. 4MKFM's AM sister station was relaunched with an easy listening format as Easymix 1026. In 2005, 4MKFM and Easymix were purchased from owners Macquarie Regional RadioWorks by Prime Media Group.

In late 2008, Prime Media Group launched the classic rock-formatted Zinc in Cairns, Gladstone and Townsville. In March 2009, Prime Media Group announced that the Zinc brand would launch in Mackay as Zinc 101.9; the 4MK-FM brand would move back to AM as 4MK-AM, replacing Easymix. Zinc 101.9's local programming consists of a local weekday breakfast show and a Saturday morning show, with all other programmes broadcast from Zinc 96 on the Sunshine Coast.

7.92×33mm Kurz

The 7.92×33mm Kurz (designated as the 7.92 x 33 kurz by the C.I.P.) is a rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge developed in Nazi Germany prior to and during World War II. The ammunition is also referred to as 7.9mm Kurz (German: Kurz meaning short), 7.9 Kurz, or 7.9mmK, or 8×33 Polte. It was specifically intended for development of an automatic carbine (assault rifle). The round was developed as a compromise between the longer 7.92×57mm rifle and the 9×19mm Parabellum pistol rounds, and is known as an intermediate cartridge (German: Mittelpatrone).

The 7.92×33mm Kurz has 2.22 ml (34.3 grains H₂O) cartridge case capacity. The exterior shape of the case was designed to promote reliable case feeding and extraction in assault rifles under extreme conditions.
