TV3 (Switzerland)

TV3 was a Swiss German-language private television channel, broadcast from 6 September 1999 to 22 December 2001. It was jointly owned by media company Tamedia and the now defunct SBS Broadcasting Group. TV3 aired notable shows such as Big Brother, Expedition Robinson, Popstars, The Bar and Wer wird Millionär?.

TV3 (Ireland)

TV3 is a commercial free-to-air television network operated within Ireland. The channel is owned by Liberty Global and operated through its subsidiary Virgin Media Ireland. The channel launched on 20 September 1998 becoming the country's first commercial broadcaster.

History

In October 1988, the Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC) was set up to regulate new independent stations. Following this TV3 was intended to the the Republic of Ireland's third terrestrial channel. The original broadcasting licence was granted to a consortium Tullamore Beta Ltd in 1990 (some of this consortium made up of Windmill Lane Productions and Paul McGuinness. It was envisaged that the channel would broadcast on cable and MMDS, but it was later decided that the channel should broadcast on terrestrial television similar to other Irish channels.

TV3's broadcast was further delayed when IRTC revoked the broadcasting licence due to delays in broadcasting the channel. After a court battle the licence was eventually restored in 1993. By 1993 an agreement was made to sell 49 per cent of the company to UTV, to raise much-needed cash for investment in facilities. However, UTV pulled out of negotiations in 1995, after TV3 tried to convince existing MMDS and cable television providers to drop UTV and replace it with TV3. Cable operators declined to drop UTV Northern Ireland from its line-up.

TV3 Lithuania

TV3 is a television channel owned by Modern Times Group (MTG) and targeted at a Lithuanian-speaking audience. It was founded on May 7, 1992 and launched on April 11, 1993 as "Tele-3" before being renamed "TV3" in June 8, 1997.

Acquired programming on TV3 includes SpongeBob SquarePants, Legend of Korra, The Simpsons, CSI: Miami, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: NY, Downton Abbey, Revenge, Touch and White Collar. Original programming includes reality and game shows as well as some factual and news programmes. It also airs the Lithuanian versions of The X Factor and Secret Story.

Mitt (film)

Mitt is a 2014 American documentary film that chronicles the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. Mitt premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 17, 2014. The film was released on Netflix on January 24, 2014.

Background

Director Greg Whiteley is an admirer of Mitt Romney's father George. He was further interested in filming Romney when he heard that Romney had attended a screening of his film New York Doll and was planning to run for president. Whiteley then approached Tagg Romney about making a documentary about his father's presidential bid. Mitt Romney was at first resistant to the idea of a documentary, but his wife Ann liked the idea. Although Whiteley had initially planned to only cover the 2008 election, he eventually ended up filming over a period of six years.

Synopsis

In 2006, Mitt Romney decides to run for president of the United States. In the days before the 2008 presidential election, he seeks to win debates against John McCain and the other Republican Party presidential candidates. After he loses the Republican nomination, he returns in 2012 to challenge incumbent Barack Obama for the White House. Meanwhile, his wife is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and he worries about disappointing his supporters and family if he loses.

Livø

Livø is a 320-hectare Danish island with approximately 10 year-round residents. The island is located in the Limfjord, about 20 minutes by boat from Roenbjerg in the middle of the Limfjord. It is midway between Nykøbing Mors, Løgstør, Fjerritslev and Thisted. Northeast of the island lies Løgstør Bredning while Livø Broads lies west and south of the island.

Geography

Livø has been a protected island since 1977. It is accessible by ferry daily between 1 April and 1 September. Dogs and motor vehicles are not permitted on the island. It is possible to walk around the entire island in one afternoon, which is about 10 km total distance. Livø is notable due to its natural beauty, especially at the central, shallow part of the island near Louisehøj and Louisedal, where a hilltop towers 43 meters above the sea. The island is a moraine, pushed up by ice from Løgstør Broads in the last Ice Age. On the cliffs overlooking the sea at the northwestern edge of the island, it is possible to see layers of material that were pushed together during the Ice Age, including jetties and steep clay slopes. The eastern and southern parts of the island are flat land with a wide beach ridge that continues south and ends in the protected Livø wildlife area, which is partly inaccessible to visitors. Herds of fallow deer live in this protected area, and the wildlife here are several generations old. The area is also designated as a seal sanctuary and seals breed here in July–August. The northern part of the island is covered with a forest where various types of trees grow, with a heath in the northernmost part. The northern part of the island is 1/3 organic farms, 1/3 woods and 1/3 heath, grasslands and salt marshes.
