Mistri, or Mistry, is a term for a master-craftsman, or supervisor of manual workers in India. However, Mistri is nowadays being replaced with "supervisor" and other terms, as with the Indian Railway who replaced it with supervisor in 2005.
The term was adopted into Gujarati from the Portuguese mestre, meaning "master" or "teacher". The Kshatriyas worked on building Dui Fort – which became the city of Diu, in which the Portuguese were present from its foundation in 1535 until 1961 – and the Portuguese called them mestre due to their skills at fort building.
In Suthar culture, mistri also meant contractor – mainly for the Mistris of Kutch, the majority of whom worked as railway, PWD and forest contractors during British rule. Many Parsi families working as contractors therefore also adopted the surname Mistry as their occupational surname, as in the example of Pallonji Mistry.
The Mistri (or Mistry) are a Hindu caste found in state of Gujarat in India.
There are two different casts by the same name:-
1) Mistri, Mistri Gurjar - which are identified as Mistris, a community originally from Kutch.
2) Mistri-Suthar - which is another name of Suthar community of Gujarat.
The Mistris ( also known as Kutch Gurjar Kshatriyas ) are a community of Kutch who migrated into Kutch in the early 7th Century from Rajasthan, to Saurashtra region of Gujarat. In the 12th Century they entered Kutch and established themselves at Dhaneti, later moving on to establish eighteen villages given to them by the then rulers of Kutch.
They are a community of Kshatriya warriors, and a minority Hindu Community of Gujarat. They are artisan and community involved in the building of many of the forts, historical monuments, buildings of the Princely State of Cutch and railway lines and bridges.
The Suthar community of Gujarat are also called as Mistris or Mistri Suthar. They are a Hindu community belonging to the Vishwakarma group involved largely in carpentry works.
Existence of his precence is his goal
Flawless lessons strengthen his control
Illustrations rest upon the walls
Worship him but soon the devil calls
Pledge to the one, the one who wallows
Worship the son, son of sorrow
Pledge to the one, the one who follows
Worship the son, no tomorrow
The hopes and the dreams
Of the one who achieves
Pleasures of flesh
They'll be down on their knees
Father and daughters
The bond will erase
Tortures of fires
The smile on his face
They threat no existence
Involves many forms
The thought of resistance
The power forewarns
Evil verses sorrow in our lives
Borrowing the souls left to decide
Afterlife a question no replies
A fallacy the preacher has no eyes
Pledge to the one, the one who wallows
Worship the son, son of sorrow
Pledge to the one, the one who follows
Worship the son, no tomorrow
Look at the graves of the thousands who've died
No one remembers who is left to decide
The flowers have wilted the maggots arrive
Who the hell cares where you go when you die
The church is in ruins the memories erased
