This list of types of fur describes the characteristics of types of fur used in fur clothing.

Beaver

Beaver fur has long been used in making muffs, stoles, collars, trimmings, and felt for hats.

Faux

Faux fur or fake fur is a material made of synthetic fibers designed to resemble fur, normally as part of a piece of clothing.

Fisher

Fisher fur varies from grayish brown to nearly black. The fur measures about two and one-half inches in length. It is used mainly for muffs and neck, shoulder pieces.

Fox

Red fox

Because of their abundance, red foxes are among the most important furbearing animals harvested by the fur trade. Their pelts are used for trimmings scarfs, muffs, jackets and coats. They are principally used as trimming for both cloth coats and fur garments, including evening wraps. The pelts of silver-morph foxes are popular as capes, while cross foxes are mostly used for scarfs and very rarely trimming. The number of sold fox scarfs exceeds the total number of scarfs made from other furbearers. However, this amount is overshadowed by the total number of fox pelts used for trimming purposes. The silver morphs are the most valued by furriers, followed by the cross and red morphs respectively. In the early 20th century, over 1,000 American fox skins were imported to Britain annually, while 500,000 were exported annually from Germany and Russia. The total worldwide trade of wild red foxes in 1985-86 was 1,543,995 pelts. Foxes amounted to 45% of US wild-caught pelts worth $50 million.

Christopher Morrison

Christopher Wingfield Morrison (nicknamed mink) is a British American film director and graphic novel writer.

Early life

Christopher Morrison was born in London, England, and relocated with his parents to Los Angeles in the United States at the age of eight. Christopher attended photography college in Santa Barbara.

Career

After college after Morrison returned to Los Angeles and was given the job as a runner at Walt Disney Studios.

Morrison directed music videos for such hip-hop artists as Snoop Dogg, Master P Raphael Saqqiq, E-40, South Central Cartel and Slum Village, along with alternative rock artists such as Veruca Salt, Face to Face, Dead Poetic and Sheryl Crow. In 2001, he was given a place as a director at Lawrence Bender's and Quentin Tarantino's A Band Apart films.

Wingfield directed the adventure thriller Into the Sun in Tokyo, Japan, in 2005 and the action comedy Full Clip in 2003. He was attached to the remake of Mortal Kombat with Larry Kasanoff producing through Threshold Entertainment and New Line Pictures in 2007. The movie never happened for various reasons.

Mink (printer)

Mink is a 3D printing company based in New York. The company created a 3D printer allows users to select any color on the internet and print it into an eye shadow pod.

Mink was founded by Harvard grad Grace Choi and debuted at TechCrunch's Disrupt conference in May 2014. The printer combines ink with a variety of substrates to "create any type of makeup, from powders to cream to lipstick," according to Choi. All ink used by Mink is FDA-approved.

The printer was initially estimated to retail at $300.

Fur

Fur is used in reference to the hair of animals, usually mammals, particularly those with extensive body hair coverage that is generally soft and thick (as opposed to the stiffer bristles on, for example, pigs). The term "pelage" (French, from Middle French, from poil hair, from Old French peilss, from Latin pilus; first known use in English c. 1828.) is sometimes used to refer to the body hair of an animal as a complete coat. Fur is also used to refer to animal pelts which have been processed into leather with the hair still attached. The words fur or furry are also used, more casually, to refer to hair-like growths or formations, particularly when the subject being referred to exhibits a dense coat of fine, soft "hairs."

Animal fur, if layered, rather than grown as a single coat, may consist of short down hairs, long guard hairs, and, in some cases, medium awn hairs. Mammals with reduced amounts of fur are often called "naked", such as naked mole-rat and naked dogs.

An animal with commercially valuable fur is known within the fur industry as a furbearer. The use of fur as clothing and/or decoration is considered controversial by some people: most animal welfare advocates object to the trapping and killing of wildlife, and to the confinement and killing of animals on fur farms.

OpenNIC

OpenNIC is an alternate network information center/alternative DNS root which lists itself as an alternative to ICANN and its registries.

As of 2006 users of the OpenNIC DNS servers are able to resolve all existing ICANN top-level domains as well as their own.

Like all alternative root DNS systems, OpenNIC-hosted domains are unreachable to the vast majority of the Internet. Only specific configuration in one's DNS resolver makes these reachable, and very few Internet service providers have this configuration.

History

On June 1, 2000, an article was posted on kuro5hin.org advocating a democratically governed domain name system. By the end of July, OpenNIC root servers were operating and several top-level domains had been introduced as well as peering of the AlterNIC namespace. In March 2001 peering began of Pacific Root and in September a search engine was announced which was dedicated to the OpenNIC namespace.

OpenNIC restructured its architecture to improve scalability and avoid single-point-of-failure issues. Each TLD has its own policies regarding acceptable use. New TLDs may be created subject to OpenNIC stated policies.
