Minister of Industry and Commerce (Manitoba)

The Minister of Industry and Commerce is a former cabinet position in the province of Manitoba, Canada.

The department's origins can be traced back to 1932, when John Stewart McDiarmid was appointed as minister of Mines and Natural Resources, and for Industry. The department was renamed as "Industry and Commerce" in 1940.

The position was eliminated in 1978, and its responsibilities dispersed among other departments.

Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism (Iceland)

The Icelandic Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism (Icelandic: Iðnaðarráðuneytið) is one of the cabinet-level government ministries responsible for Iceland's economy. It shares that responsibility with the Ministry of Business Affairs (responsible for banking and trade) and the Ministry of Fisheries (fishing making up some 40% of Iceland's exports). Since 2009, the responsible minister is Katrín Júlíusdóttir of the Social Democratic Alliance.

The industry minister is a cabinet position in a government.

The title may refer to the head of the governmental department that specializes in industry. This position may also be responsible for trade and employment, areas that fall under the ministries of commerce and labour in some governments. Depending on the country, the industry minister may have a wide range of responsibilities that could include making decisions regarding utilities and electricity production, presiding over business mergers, and lobbying corporations to build facilities in his or her respective country.

In the United States, industry is the responsibility of the Secretary of Commerce, with an Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security specifically tasked with executing policy regarding industry. In the United Kingdom, the minister of industry is called the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and bears the secondary title President of the Board of Trade.

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development is the Minister of the Crown in the Canadian Cabinet who is responsible for overseeing the federal government's economic development and corporate affairs department, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. The Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development is also the minister responsible for Statistics Canada. By convention, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development also serves as the Registrar General of Canada. From 1993 – 2015, the Ministry was known as Minister of Industry before being renamed to its current name in the 29th Canadian Ministry.

The Minister of Commerce was a cabinet member in the Government of France. The position has largely been merged today into the expanded Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry.

Ministers of Commerce and Manufacturing

In 1812 Napoleon created a Ministry of Commerce and Manufacturing (Ministère du Commerce et des Manufactures), which he assigned to Jean-Baptiste Collin de Sussy. That ministry was suppressed in 1814.

A royal ordinance of 22 January 1828 recreated the Ministry of Commerce and Manufacturing, which covered manufacturing and interior and exterior commerce, which were detached from the Ministry of the Interior. The ministry was suppressed by ordinance of 8 August 1829, and these services were again made part of the department of the interior.
