Ming Pao

Ming Pao (traditional Chinese: 明報; simplified Chinese: 明报; pinyin: Míng Bào) is a Chinese-language newspaper published by Ming Pao Group in Hong Kong. In the 1990s, Ming Pao established four overseas branches in North America; each provides independent reporting on local news and collects local advertisements. Currently, only the two Canadian editions remain: Ming Pao Toronto and Ming Pao Vancouver. Ming Pao New York and Ming Pao San Francisco ceased operations on 31 January and 14 February 2009, respectively.

Mission

Ming Pao operates with a mission and longstanding editorial direction to present comprehensive, objective and bias-free coverage and analyses on political and economic issues in both mainland China and Hong Kong. It aims at providing comprehensive and accurate reports on political and economic issues in Hong Kong and mainland China. Well known for its accuracy in language, many secondary schools in Hong Kong encourage their students to subscribe to Ming Pao to improve their Chinese language.

Ming Pao Daily News (Canada)

Ming Pao Daily News (明報 Pinyin: MíngBào), or Ming Pao for short, is a Chinese language newspaper in Canada owned by the Ming Pao Group of Hong Kong.

Ming Pao in Canada has two editions. The Eastern edition (加東版 Pinyin: Jiā Dōng Bǎn) published in Toronto, Ontario was launched in May 1993 by then Chairman P.H. Yu, and competed in the local Chinese community with Sing Tao Daily and World Journal. The Toronto editorial offices are located in Agincourt. Shortly after in October 1993, the Western edition (加西版 Pinyin: Jiā Xī Bǎn) was launched in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The paper is published 7 days a week in broadsheet format. News coverage include Canadian news (including national, provincial, city and community pages), international news, Hong Kong news, Mainland China and Taiwan news, plus lifestyle, entertainment, and sports sections.

Supplements (magazines)

The Canada Eastern edition of Ming Pao publishes several weekly supplements (magazines). Unlike the situation in Hong Kong where the magazines are sold as separate publications, these are more properly called supplements that come free with the paper. The pages inside the magazines are also printed on newsprint instead of glossy paper.
