Turkish Sign Language

Turkish Sign Language (Turkish: Türk İşaret Dili, TİD) is the language used by the deaf community in Turkey. As with other sign languages, TİD has a unique grammar that is different from the oral languages used in the region.

TİD uses a two-handed manual alphabet which is very different from the two-handed alphabets used in the BANZSL sign languages.

Status

There is little published information on Turkish Sign Language.

Signing communities

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, there are a total of 89,000 persons (54,000 male, 35,000 female) with hearing impairment and 55,000 persons (35,000 male, 21,000 female) with speaking disability living in Turkey, based on 2000 census data.

History

TİD is dissimilar from European sign languages. There was a court sign language of the Ottoman Empire, which reached its height in the 16th century and 17th centuries and lasted at least until the early 20th. However, there is no record of the signs themselves and no evidence the language was ancestral to modern Turkish Sign Language.

TID (musician)

TID is a Bongo Flava musician from Tanzania, whose real name is Khalid Mohamed (born 1981 in Dar es Salaam). TID is an acronym of Top in Dar, in which "Dar" refers to Dar es Salaam, his hometown. He is best known for his hits "Zeze" and "Siamini".

Biography

He started singing in 1994 with a group known as Black Gangsters. He turned solo five years later. At the age of 21 he signed with Poa Records. His first single "Mrembo" was released in March 2002. He did also act the main role on the film "Girlfriend", a film about the Bongo Flava scene.

He has toured in East African countries, United Kingdom and United States. He performs with a live band called Top Band.

His hit "Zeze" is included in the Global Soul compilation by Putumayo World Music.

In 2008 he was sentenced for one year in prison for an assault. He was released four months later.

In May, 2010, it was reported that he was assaulted by professional basketball player Hasheem Thabeet in a night club in Tanzania. Thabeet, through his agent, has denied being involved with any altercation that night although he was present at the night club.

Frost*

Frost* is an English neo-progressive rock supergroup, formed in 2004 by Jem Godfrey and members of Arena, Kino, and IQ. Frost* released their first studio album, Milliontown, in 2006, before splitting up. In 2008, Godfrey reformed Frost*, adding Darwin's Radio vocalist and guitarist, Declan Burke, to the lineup, and released their second album, Experiments in Mass Appeal. The band disbanded again in 2011, to reunite later in September, after a brief hiatus.

Formation

Frost* was formed in September 2004, by songwriter, producer and musician Jem Godfrey - better known to the wider world for his work creating chart-topping pop hits for bands including Atomic Kitten - when he made a conscious decision to return to his own musical past writing and playing progressive music, in the band Freefall.

After listening to a broad selection of contemporary progressive music, he first approached John Mitchell of Arena, The Urbane and Kino, (and currently lead guitarist and singer for It Bites). Mitchell then introduced Godfrey to John Jowitt (also of Arena, and additionally IQ and Jadis), subsequently leading to meeting Andy Edwards (of The Wikkamen, Priory of Brion, IQ and the Ian Parker Band).John Boyes, Godfrey's former band-mate in Freefall in the 1990s, and from the band Rook, had already performed significant rhythm guitar work on the early recordings.

List of Mortal Kombat characters

This is a list of playable characters from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series and the games in which they appear. The series takes place in a fictional universe composed of six realms, which were created by the Elder Gods. The Elder Gods created a fighting tournament called Mortal Kombat to reduce the wars between the realms. The first Mortal Kombat game introduces a tournament in which Earthrealm can be destroyed if it loses once again.

The Earthrealm warriors manage to defeat the champion Goro and tournament host Shang Tsung, but this leads Tsung to search for other ways to destroy Earthrealm. Since then, every game features a new mortal who wishes to conquer the realms, therefore violating the rules of Mortal Kombat. By Mortal Kombat: Deception, most of the main characters had been killed by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi (neither of whom were playable in the game), but by Mortal Kombat: Armageddon all of them return.

Frost (Australian band)

FROST is an Australian pop rock band formed in 1997 in Melbourne. Although the band has change several drummers since its inception, they are becoming an increasingly popular independent group in Australia. Lee "Lemon" Trevena is the singer, Tim "Porn" Powne plays bass guitar, and Benny Bishop plays keyboards; as of 2002, Jerry Speiser, formerly of hit 1980s pop band Men at Work, plays drums.

The band received hi-rotation on Nova 100 and SBS Television in 2003 with their single, "You and Me", featured on the SBS and Universal Records CD, The SBS Whatever Sessions. As of 2004 they have released three EPs. The Usual Suspects (EP/MGM/2004), FROST (LP/SHOCK/2005) and 10:06 (EP/Green/2006).

Frost will appear on the Sound of Melbourne Records release in 2011.

Min is listed 132nd in the Song dynasty classic text Hundred Family Surnames. As of 2008, it is the 193rd most common surname in China, shared by 520,000 people.
