Military hospital

A military hospital is a hospital that is reserved for the use of military personnel, their dependents and other authorized users. They may or may not be located on a military base; many are not.

In the United Kingdom and Germany, British military hospitals have been closed; military personnel are usually treated in a special wing of a designated civilian hospital, in UK referred to as a Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit. Service personnel injured in combat operations are normally treated at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

37 Military Hospital

The 37 Military Hospital is a specialist hospital located in Accra, on the main road between Kotoka International Airport and central Accra. It is the largest military hospital in the Republic of Ghana after the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The name of the hospital is mostly used to refer to the community in which it resides.

History

The hospital was originally established in 1941 by a British military officer, General George Giffard, as a military hospital to provide treatment for troops injured in the Second World War. At the same time, Giffard also arranged the creation of the 52 Military Hospital at Takoradi, although this was later relocated to India. The hospital's name at this time was No. 37 General Hospital; it was changed to 37 Military Hospital of the Gold Coast in 1956. The hospital was later expanded and opened to the public, although the hospital continues to be staffed primarily by military personnel. In 2011, during a national strike by doctors in public hospitals, the Ministry of Health donated GH ¢230,000 of medical supplies to the hospital to enable it to continue treating an increased number of patients. During this 19-day strike, the number of patients admitted to the hospital doubled.

301 Military Hospital

The 301 Military Hospital (Chinese: 三〇一医院) or People's Liberation Army General Hospital (Chinese: 中国人民解放军总医院), which constitutes simultaneously the PLA Postgraduate Medical School (Chinese: 中国人民解放军医学院), located in Beijing, China, is a military hospital directly subsidiary to People's Liberation Army General Logistics Department and the largest general hospital under the auspices of the People's Liberation Army. Its mission includes assuring the health of PLA and China's leaders.

The hospital was founded in 1953, and is situated on the western part of the 4th Beijing Ring Road.

The China PLA General Hospital was formerly the second clinical institute affiliated to Peking Union Medical College, which was changed in October, 1953 into “Hospital directly affiliated to the military commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In July 1954, it was renamed as the 301 Hospital of the PLA. In June 1957, the Department of Defense mandated to cancel the appellation of “301 Hospital”, while appointing the name of “the China PLA General Hospital”. PLA Postgraduate Medical School was constructed with support from the China PLA General Hospital. It was founded in November 1958 and closed down in 1962, and in June 1979, it was restored with approval from the military commission. In September 1986, it was formally listed among the universities and colleges of the whole army, with an authorization number. In 2004, the 304 Hospital and 309 Hospital of the PLA were renamed respectively as the 304 and 309 Clinical Branches, and publicly referred to as the First and the Second Hospitals affiliated to the China PLA General Hospital, meanwhile listed into the compilation sequence of the China PLA General Hospital.
