Milan Metro Line 2

The Milan Metro Line 2 (Linea Due in Italian), is a subway line serving Milan, Italy, operated by ATM and part of the Milan Metro. It is also called Green Line, (Linea Verde in Italian), as it is visually identified by green signs.

The line runs from the southern to the north-eastern neighborhoods passing through the city centre, serving the north-eastern metropolitan area with two different branches. The line is 39.4 km (24.5 mi) long and has 35 stations. Line 2 is the longest line of the Milan Metro and is the only one running partially overground. Northern branches run mostly on viaducts and southern Assago branch runs on the surface.

The line has the southernmost and easternmost stations on the network (Assago Forum and Gessate).

History

The first part of the line, from Caiazzo to Cascina Gobba, was opened on September 1969.

The interurban sections of Line 2 were originally built as part of a fast tramway, the Linee celeri dell'Adda ("Adda fast lines"), opened in 1968 from Cimiano up to Gorgonzola. After few years, in 1972, the section was included in the newly born Metro line. The same section was extended in 1985 up to Gessate, the present terminus.

Milan Metro

The Milan Metro (Italian: Metropolitana di Milano) is the rapid transit system serving Milan, Italy, operated by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi. The network consists of 4 lines, identified by different numbers and colors, with a total network length of 101 kilometres (63 mi), and a total of 113 stations, mostly underground. It has a daily ridership of 1.15 million.

The first line, the red one, opened in 1964, the green line opened 5 years later in 1969, the yellow line in 1990, and the lilac line in 2013. A fifth line is currently under construction. Milan Metro is currently the first system in Italy for length, number of stations and ridership.

The architectural project, by Franco Albini, Franca Helg and Bob Noorda, was awarded in 1964 with a Compasso d'oro, the most prestigious award for Design in Italy.

History

The first projects for a subway line in Milan were drawn up in 1914 and 1925, following the examples of underground transport networks in other European cities like London and Paris. Planning proceeded in 1938 for the construction of a system of 7 lines, but this too halted after the start of World War II and due to lack of funds.

Line 2 (Saint Petersburg Metro)

The Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya Line (Russian: Московско-Петроградская), is the second oldest line of the Saint Petersburg Metro, opened in 1961. It featured the first cross-platform transfer in the USSR. It was also the first metro line in Saint Petersburg to feature a unique platform type that soon became dubbed as "Horizontal Lift". The line cuts Saint Petersburg on a north-south axis and is generally coloured blue on Metro maps. In 2006, as an extension was opened, it became the longest line on the system.

Rolling stock

The line is served by the Moskovskoe (№ 3) depot, and has 56 six-carriage trains assigned to it. Most of these are of type 81-714/717, but some are the .5 standard, built in the 1970s through the 1990s. There are also newer 81-540.1/541.1 and .9 trains running since 2000.

Recent developments and future plans

The line is complete as such, and the recent extension to Parnas means that in the long future no future extensions will be built. However it is very likely that some of the central stations will be receiving much needed repairs internally and externally.

Line 2 (Naples)

Line 2 (Italian: Linea 2) is a commuter rail service operated by Trenitalia in the city of Naples, Italy. It connects 12 stations.

Line 2 operates on the Villa Literno–Napoli San Giovanni-Barra railway, which crosses the city of Naples from west to east.

Line 2 also has some regional extensions. These are the Formia-Castellamare, Naples-Capua and Naples-Salerno (all these services use the Passante railway, of which the latter two start from Campi Flegrei station). Line 2 is the only Trenitalia service forming part of the Naples metropolitan railway service.

History

The construction of the line, part of the ″direttissima″ Rome–Naples, was begun in 1911 and after a suspension during World War I, it was completed in 1925 between Pozzuoli and Piazza Garibaldi, electrified with third rail. Two years later the ″direttissima″ was completed, and the electrical rail service was extended towars Villa Literno and San Giovanni-Barra.

In November 1935 the line was also electrified with overhead line; the third rail was discontinued in 1938.

Line 2 (Budapest Metro)

The Metro 2 (officially: M2, East-West Line, and unofficially: Red Line) is the second line of the Budapest Metro. The line runs east from Déli pályaudvar in north-central Buda under the Danube to the city center, from where it continues east following the route of Rákóczi út to its terminus at Örs vezér tere.

Prior to the 2014 opening of Metro 4, it was the only line that served Buda. Daily ridership is estimated at 451,627.

History

The first plans for the present-day two lines were made in 1942, and the Council of Ministers' decree enacted its building in 1950. Metro 2 was originally planned to connect two major railway stations, Keleti (Eastern) and Déli (Southern) pályaudvar. They wanted to complete the first section by 1954 between Deák Ferenc tér and Népstadion (today Puskás Ferenc Stadion), the second section by 1955 between Déli pályaudvar and Deák Ferenc tér. The construction was ceased for financial and political reasons from 1954 till 1963, the ruling Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party decided to restart the construction on a party congress in 1959. It was finally opened with seven stations on April 4 (then a Communist holiday in Hungary) in 1970, and the second section in 1972. The eastern section was extended to Örs vezér tere, instead of Népstadion. Operation started in 1970 with 3 units, expanded to 4 units soon after. There are five unit-trains on Line 2 since 1972. A major reconstruction of the track and the stations was undertaken between 2004 and 2008, with new trains arriving in 2010.

Milan the Leather Boy

Milan Radenkovich (December 15, 1941 – March 14, 1971), who was always credited mononymously as Milan, was an American record producer, songwriter and recording artist on numerous songs made throughout the 1960s, mostly though not exclusively in the garage rock genre. He released an LP and numerous singles for seven different national record labels and other independent labels (a total of more than 30 songs) under a variety of names, including Milan with His Orchestra, Milan, The World of Milan, Milan (The Leather Boy), and The Leather Boy, and also worked under the name Rick Rodell. As a producer, arranger and/or songwriter, Milan oversaw many other releases by a variety of artists ranging from the pop singer Lou Christie to the psychedelic rock band the Head Shop.

Greg Shaw placed Milan's song "I'm a Leather Boy" as the opening track on two different albums in the Pebbles series: the Pebbles, Volume 10 CD and the earlier Pebbles, Volume 11 LP (which was also the first album to be released on his AIP record label). He has written of Milan as being "a cryptic artist who made a series of high image records offering himself as some leather-clad, bike-riding rebel, but so stylized he might've been imagined by Andy Warhol. . . . The only name to be found on these records is Milan, a name that also shows up as writer/producer on a big pile of records, from the early 60s right thru the end of the decade. . . . But who was he? No further clue has ever emerged. This is one guy whose story really cries out to be told."

Milan (comics)

Francisco Milan was a fictional member of the Acolytes in Marvel Comics. He first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #300.

Fictional character biography

Milan is a member of the Acolytes, a super-powered team of terrorists that claim to follow the teachings of the villainous Magneto.

Milan is one of the Acolytes who helped kidnap geneticist Moira MacTaggert. The group keep her in their current headquarters in a facility in France. Milan uses his powers to record various memories off Moira into the Acolyte computer systems. Moira is soon rescued by the heroic X-Men. With the other Acolytes, Milan leaves Fabian Cortez thanks to Exodus, and rejoin Magneto; they appear at Illyana's funeral, where they recruit Colossus. The X-Men attack Avalon, and Milan assists the Acolytes in defending it.
