Mike Simpson

Michael Keith "Mike" Simpson, D.M.D. (born September 8, 1950), is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Idaho's 2nd congressional district. First elected in 1998, he is a member of the Republican Party and previously served in the state legislature in Idaho.

Early life, education and career

Born in Burley, Simpson was raised in Blackfoot, where his father was a dentist. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1968, Utah State University in Logan in 1972, and the Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1977. Simpson practiced dentistry in Blackfoot until his election to Congress in 1998. He was elected to the Blackfoot City Council in 1980 and was elected to the state legislature in 1984, the first of seven terms. Simpson was the Speaker of the Idaho House prior to his election to Congress.

While some members of Congress with a medical background prefer to be addressed as "Doctor" (most notably former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist), Simpson does not insist that he be referred to as Dr. Simpson, preferring to simply go by Congressman or Mr. Simpson.

Mike "Simo" Simpson, professionally known as MJ Simpson, is a former deputy editor of the British science fiction magazine SFX. The Leicester-based freelance journalist is the author of two books on the television writer and novelist Douglas Adams and his work:

He produces a website focussed upon genre cinema and is currently working on a biography of the actress Elsa Lanchester.

Simpson is one of the occasional judges for the Delta Film Award.

Simpson was for many years involved in running ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, the official Hitchhiker's Guide appreciation society.

Mike Simpson (writer)

Mike Simpson is a British writer and educator. He described his experiences as a teacher in That'll Teach You! under the pen-name of Michael James. He is also a member of Thames Ditton Lawn Tennis Club.

Mike currently works for a preparatory school just outside London. He is an English teacher working at Milbourne Lodge School, and originally worked under the inspirational headmaster Norman Hale. Mike subsequently returned to this Esher school in 2003 after a career working throughout the world, and in particular for the Saudi Royal Family.

The Caulfields

The Caulfields were an alternative rock band from Newark, Delaware which recorded two albums for A&M Records in the late 1990s. The group was led by singer/songwriter John Faye who is the front man for the Philadelphia-based groups IKE and John & Brittany. The group is best known for their song "Devil's Diary."

Their first album was 1995's Whirligig. The album's initial single was "Devil's Diary", which received limited radio play as well as exposure on MTV. The band toured Australia on the back of airplay on popular youth radio station Triple J, supporting Australian band Died Pretty. Two weeks before the release of their second album L in 1997 A&M Records fired the A&R executive representing the band. Six months later The Caulfields disbanded.

Mike Simpson (Michigan politician)

Mike Simpson (December 11, 1962 – December 18, 2009) was an American businessman, politician, and member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He was a member of the Democratic Party.

Education

Mike Simpson received his High School Diploma at Plymouth-Canton High School. After high school the Representative attended college for some time.

Professional experience

Mike Simpson was a veteran who served in the United States Army Reserve from 1980–1986. After high school Simpson joined his family's business and was an entrepreneur and business owner until his death.

Political experience

In 2006 Mike was elected state representative in Michigan's 65th house district after having run in the same district in 2004 and in US House District 7 in 2002.

He was a member of all five local business chambers in the 65th District; Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, Eaton Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce, Grass Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Onsted Area Chamber of Commerce.

Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies

The Boundary Commission's recommendations implemented by Parliament for 2010 saw the realignment of the boundary with Guildford in order to bring it in line with adjustment of local government wards. Guildford's electorate was the largest of the county and this aimed to reduce it. Two wards split between the two constituencies: Bramley; and Busbridge and Hascombe, afterwards entirely in South West Surrey; and the ward: 'Alfold, Cranleigh Rural and Ellens Green' was split, so it was for 2010 consolidated into Guildford. The net effect was to increase the number of voters in South West Surrey and reduce the number in Guildford.
