Mike Jones (boxer)

Mike Jones (born April 26, 1983) is an American professional boxer. He is a former NABA and WBO–NABO welterweight champion.

Professional career

Mike Jones made his professional boxing debut on December 16, 2005 at the age of 22 against Jason Thompson who he would defeat by a second round technical knockout. By May 2007 Jones had compiled a record of 7-0, all by knockout no later than the third round. It was around this time that Jones was featured on the undercard of the Hugo Fidel Cazares vs. Wilfrido Valdez fight.

On August 29, 2008, Jones defeated Juliano Ramos to win the vacant NABA Welterweight title.

On April 17, 2010, Jones defeated Hector Munoz to defend his NABA title but also to win the vacant WBO NABO welterweight title.

On November 13, 2010, Jones fought in Arlington, Texas vs. Jesus Soto Karass, on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito. Many argued Karass was the winner, but the decision went the way of Jones. A rematch was made and Jones won.

Before the fight, Jones did a little mitt work with Floyd Mayweather Sr. "Floyd Mayweather said that with both hands, Mike is the hardest-hitting welterweight that he has ever worked the mitts with, and that he hits harder than Thomas Hearns," said Vaughn Jackson. "He said that if he continues to hit that way, then no welterweight will stand, and that includes Soto-Karass."

Michael Jones (born August 19, 1988 in St. Peters, Missouri) is an American soccer player. He currently plays for the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Arena Soccer League.

Career

College and Amateur

Jones attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and appeared in 60 games for the Cougars, recording six goals and two assists from the backline. As a senior centerback in 2010, Jones helped lead SIUE to seven shutouts in 19 games and was chosen Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference.

Professional

On January 18, 2011, Jones was drafted in the second round (#28 overall) in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft by Sporting Kansas City. He was waived by the team on May 5. He did not make any MLS appearances for Kansas City, but played in one reserve league match. On June 18, the New York Red Bulls announced that Jones had signed with the team. On June 28, 2011 Jones started his first match for New York playing the full 90 in a 2-1 victory over FC New York in the US Open Cup. During the 2011 Emirates Cup, Jones was included in the New York squad but did not play in either games against Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

2010 Panama City school board shootings

The 2010 Panama City school board shootings occurred on December 14, 2010, in Panama City, Florida. In the attack, a disgruntled individual, Clay Allen Duke, fired four shots at six Bay District School board members, but missed them all, including the superintendent. Duke was then shot several times by security guard Mike Jones, a former policeman; shortly afterward Duke killed himself with a shot to the head.

Much of the episode and its immediate aftermath were recorded by local television news stations WMBB and WJHG-TV. The video was subsequently uploaded to video sharing sites, including YouTube.

Incident

At 2:00 p.m. on December 14, 2010, Duke stood up during a school board meeting in Panama City, Florida, and said, "I have a motion." He then promptly pulled out a can of red spray paint and sprayed a "V" inside a circle, as seen in the film V for Vendetta. He then produced a 9mm Smith & Wesson 469 semiautomatic pistol, causing other staff near the bench and audience members to duck for cover. He aimed the gun at the board members and used it to point to two women, saying, "You may leave, and you may leave...the women can leave...The six men stay, everyone else leave."
