Mike Hedges

Mike Hedges is a British audio producer/engineer.

Career

Mike Hedges started as a tape-op at Morgan Studios in London in the late 1970s. Having graduated to engineer, he went freelance in 1981 and became an engineer/producer.

Hedges' first major collaboration was with The Cure, and resulted in their debut single "Killing an Arab". Hedges opened his own facility, the Playground, designed by Acoustician Andy Munro, in nearby Camden Town where he continued to work with The Cure as well as with the Associates and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

His subsequent credits have included U2, Dido, The Undertones, Manic Street Preachers, Travis, Texas, The Beautiful South, and The Priests. He produced Manic Street Preachers' Everything Must Go, which was voted best album of 1996 by Q, Vox, Select and Music Week, and won the BRIT Award for Album Of The Year.

Mike Hedges has also worked as part of the musical team for the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Between 1996 and 2000, Hedges' work was continuously nominated for the Grammy awards for four successive years, which no other British producer has done.

Mike Hedges (politician)

Michael John Hedges AM (born 8 July 1956) is a Welsh Labour politician, who has represented the constituency of Swansea East since the 2011 National Assembly for Wales election with a majority of 8,281 and with 58.36% of the total vote.

Personal History

Mike has lived in Morriston for many years but was originally born in the Plasmarl area of Swansea. He is married to Anne and has a daughter, Catrin, who attends Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe. He attended Plasmarl, Parklands and Penlan Schools, and then went onto higher education at both Swansea University and Cardiff University. Active in local sport, Mike has been a football referee, coach and was secretary of Morriston town for several years. Currently, Mike is President of Ynystawe Cricket and Football Club and is a social member of both Morriston RFC and Glais RFC.

Professional Background

Originally a research scientist for British Steel at Port Talbot, Mike has spent the last 27 years as a senior lecturer in Pontypridd, specialising in computing and information technology.
