Mick Davis

Sir Michael Lawrence "Mick" Davis (born 15 February 1958) is a South African/British businessman. He served as the chief executive (CEO) of Xstrata plc, an Anglo-Swiss multinational mining company, until its merger with Glencore in 2013. After leaving Xstrata, he formed the mining venture, X2 Resources.

Early life and education

Mick Davis was born to a South African Jewish family on 15 February 1958. He was educated at Theodor Herzl School, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where he was a schoolfriend of Ivan Glasenberg, CEO of Glencore. He has a bachelor of commerce degree from Rhodes University and is a qualified accountant.

Career

Davis was a senior manager with the accountants Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co from 1980–1986. Davis was an executive director of the South African state-owned Eskom, one of the world’s largest electricity utilities, before joining Gencor Ltd in 1994. He served as executive chairman of Ingwe Coal Corporation Ltd from 1995, until appointed in July 1997 as chief financial Officer and an executive director of Billiton plc. He served as chief executive of Xstrata from 2001 but left in 2013, after the company was taken over by Glencore. He subsequently formed the mining venture, X2 Resources, with former colleagues including former Xstrata finance director Trevor Reid and executives Thras Moraitis, Andrew Latham and Ian Pearce.

Michael "Mick" Davis (born 1 August 1961) is a Scottish film director, producer and screenwriter.

Born in Glasgow and raised in the Gorbals, Davis was bed-ridden with asthma during his childhood. When he outgrew the condition, he worked as a fitness coach for the football team Celtic F.C. where he met and befriended the singer Rod Stewart, an ardent supporter of Celtic. When Davis moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in screenwriting, Stewart introduced him to people in showbusiness to give his career a start.

Davis' first major credit was as screenwriter on Love in Paris (also called Another 9½ Weeks, a sequel to 9½ Weeks). In 1999, he made his directorial debut with The Match, a football-themed romantic comedy filmed in Scotland. In 2004, he directed Modigliani, a biography of the artist Amedeo Modigliani. In 2013, Davis wrote, produced and directed a short film, Haunting Charles Manson, and the next year, a feature-length version of the same film.
