Michael Sweet

Michael Harrison Sweet (born July 4, 1963) is a singer from Whittier, California; he is the co-founder, writer, lead guitarist, lead singer and front man of the Christian metal band Stryper. He was also singer and guitarist for Boston from 2007 to 2011.

Career

Stryper

In the early 1980s, Sweet and his brother started a band called Roxx Regime and played in small venues. They were a trio for a period of time with Sweet being the only guitar player in the band. This band would later become Stryper. The band challenged the stereotype of heavy metal being satanic and took Christian rock into mainstream.

With the band, Sweet was not only the lead vocalist and shared lead guitar duties, but he also wrote most of the music for the band as well as co-producing and arranging the music as well. The band recorded five successful studio albums. The band's reputation declined in the 1990s.

Solo

After nine years as the lead singer/lead guitarist of Stryper, Sweet left the band in 1992 in order to pursue a solo career. He first released a demo album titled Unstryped, which featured several songs allegedly intended for the band. Sweet later included some of these on his first full-length album.

Michael R. Sweet is a computer scientist known for being the primary developer of the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS). He also developed flPhoto, HTMLDOC, and Mini-XML and was the original developer of the Gimp-Print software, now known as Gutenprint. Sweet contributes to other free software projects such as FLTK, Newsd, and Samba. He co-owned and ran Easy Software Products (ESP), a small company that specialized in Internet and printing technologies and went on to sell HTML publishing software.

    Career

Sweet graduated in Computer Science at the SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica-Rome. He then spent several years working for the Navy on real-time computer graphics. After releasing a freeware tool "topcl", in 1993 Sweet set up Easy Software Products (ESP) and developed the ESP Print software. He started work on the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) in 1997 and in 1999 released it under the GNU GPL license along with the commercially licensed ESP Print Pro.

Apple included CUPS in its Mac OS X operating system and in February 2007, they purchased the copyright to the CUPS source code which, unusually for an Open Source project, was largely owned by ESP. Apple also hired Sweet to continue the development of CUPS.

Michael Ernest Sweet (born March 23, 1979) is a Canadian photographer, writer and educator.

    Early life

Michael Ernest Sweet was born and raised on his family's farm in Martock, Nova Scotia. Michael Sweet taught in public schools in Montreal, Quebec, from 2003 to 2015 and founded Learning for a Cause, which earned him two of Canada's highest civilian honors for his contributions to Canadian education, A Prime Minister's Award and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. Sweet is also a two-time national finalist for The Governor General's Award for Teaching Excellence.

    Photography

Sweet is known for his oddly-framed, gritty, low-fi, close-up street photography, as well as for his use of cheap cameras, including disposables. He is the author of two street photography monographs, The Human Fragment, which earned him advance praise from noted photographers Jay Maisel and Roger Ballen, as well as the attention of New York arts writer and critic Michael Musto, and Michael Sweet's Coney Island, which features a foreword by Bruce LaBruce, and received advanced praise from Magnum Photos photographer Martin Parr. Sweet's most notable photographic work, grainy close-up black and white shots of Coney Island, earned him a "passing of the torch" in an endorsement from photographer Harold Feinstein, who spent most of his life documenting the famous urban beach. His photography often consists of "human fragments"—partial views of people on the street. His works are mainly presented in black and white, with a grainy texture.

    Michael Sweet (police officer)

Michael Sweet (Metro Toronto Police) (December 2, 1949 March 14, 1980) was a Police Constable with the Toronto Police Service who was murdered by career criminals Craig and Jamie Munro.

On March 14, 1980, Constable Michael Sweet, a six-year veteran of the Metro Toronto Police Force, and his partner were on patrol when they responded to a robbery in progress at George's Bourbon St. Bistro at 180 Queen Street West in Toronto.

Constable Sweet was shot by Craig Munro and held hostage by the robbers. Constable Sweet pleaded for his life but the robbers refused to let him receive medical treatment.

Ninety minutes later, heavily armed police stormed the restaurant and attempted to rescue him. Constable Sweet, however, had bled out and died in the hospital. He left behind a wife and three children.

Sgt. Eddie Adamson, commander of the Emergency Task Force (TPS) on the scene, initially wanted to storm the building, knowing Sweet had been wounded and was likely at death's door, but was ordered to stand down. After about 90 minutes, Adamson finally defied that order and he and his men stormed the building anyway, but it was too late as Sweet had bled out. This fact would haunt Adamson to the day that he took his own life on 5 October 2005 at a motel in Innisfil, north of Toronto. The son of former Metro Toronto police chief Harold Adamson, was nine days short of his 58th birthday. After his death, the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board eventually ruled, "that Eddie Adamson's death was not simply brought on by a bullet from a gun but from Posttraumatic stress disorder triggered by the guilt he felt each day for the last years of his life for not disobeying the order to stand down and, instead, storming the bistro to save 30-year-old Michael Sweet's life."

"IPP is going to solve a lot of problems with cross-platform printing."

    Tomorrow

I know how she's feeling now, all alone with no place left to go
He's broke her heart a million times, he doesn't seem to care and so it shows
All she wants is to be loved, no that's not selfish that's just what she needs, yeah she needs
And so she says this simple prayer, "God above I know your out there"
    CHORUS
I love him more than life, so much more than he'll ever know
Can YOU save us tonight so he'll love me tomorrow
It's so hard to see her cry, I wish that I could somehow dry her tears
Or give her wings that help her fly to where she used to be or even near
All she wants is to be loved, no that's not selfish that's just what she needs, yeah she needs
And so she says this simple prayer, "God above I know your out there"
    CHORUS
I love him more than life, so much more than he'll ever know
Can YOU save us tonight so he'll love me tomorrow
    SOLO
    CHORUS
I love him more than life, so much more than he'll ever know
Can YOU save us tonight so he'll love me tomorrow
    (Repeat Chorus)
