Michael Potter

Michael "Mick" Potter (born 24 September 1963 in Parramatta, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and former player who currently works as an assistant coach at the Newcastle Knights. He was previously head coach of Super League clubs, Catalans Dragons, St Helens, Bradford Bulls, and National Rugby League club Wests Tigers. As a player he was a New South Wales State of Origin representative fullback, playing his club football for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (with whom he won the 1984 and 1985 premierships), St George Dragons (whom he captained, and won the 1991 Dally M Medal with) and Western Reds.

Canterbury signed Potter while he was still a student at St. Gregory's, Campbelltown. In only his second year of first-grade, Potter became the first fullback to win the Dally M Player of the Year award. He is a member of Canterburys' 1984 Premiership winning team in their 6-4 win over Parramatta. A second premiership followed when Canterbury defeated St. George, 7-6 in the 1985 Grand Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Potter broke his leg in 1986 and struggled to regain his form at Canterbury.

Michael Potter (immunologist)

Michael Potter (February 27, 1924 – June 18, 2013) was an American physician and immunologist. He won the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 1984, for "his fundamental research in the genetics of immunoglobulin molecules and for paving the way for the development of hybridomas and monoclonal antibodies".

Education

Potter graduated with a BA in Government from the California State University at Sacramento and a minor in Business Administration. He received a Master’s of Science from the London School of Economics, and a certificate in Space Studies from the International Space University.

Business activities

Potter runs a family investment firm, Paradigm Ventures, which focuses on new strategies for analyzing and developing high-technology ventures. One of the companies they have invested in is Global Connect. Michael Potter is also the current vice chairman of Manna Energy Foundation and Geeks without Frontiers. These two foundations focuses on the eradication of poverty through the use of social entrepreneurship. Manna currently has projects in Rwanda and Kenya involving the installation of biogas generators, high-efficiency wood stoves and solar-powered water-purification systems. Geeks without Frontiers is currently developing an open source, Wi-Fi network bringing Internet access to undeveloped areas of Africa. Michael Potter is currently a Senior Fellow at the International Institute of Space Commerce, an institute dedicated to the study and promotion of space industry
