Michael Marshall (bishop)

Michael Eric Marshall (born 14 April 1936) was the eighth Bishop of Woolwich in the Church of England (Anglican).

Marshall was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge and was ordained in 1961. His first ministry position was as a curate at St Peter's Church, Spring Hill, Birmingham after which he was temporarily a tutor at Ely Theological College and then a chaplain at the University of London. Appointed vicar of All Saints, Margaret Street in 1969, six years later he became the Bishop of Woolwich. Resigning in 1984 he became the Director of the Anglican Institute in St Louis, Missouri in the United States before returning to England to be Director of Evangelism at Chichester Theological College. He then became, first, priest in charge and, later, rector of Holy Trinity Sloane Street (1997–2007). In 2003, he founded the Awareness Foundation with the Revd Nadim Nassar. He is the President of the Awareness Foundation and co-author of the Awareness Course. A prominent author, his many books include A Pattern of Faith (1966), Glory under Your Feet (1978), Pilgrimage and Promise (1981), Renewal in Worship (1982), The Gospel Connection and Flame in the Mind (2002). In retirement he serves as an assistant bishop in London. His "SPA" (Scripture Prayer Action) ministry was developed with the Rev'd Soon Han Choi; SPA was initially based at the Church of the Annunciation, Marble Arch. Since leaving Holy Trinity Sloane Square Marshall has continued to work as President of the Awareness Foundation. Marshall's most recent book, The Transforming Power of Prayer: From Illusion to Reality, was the 2011 Mowbray Lent book.

Michael Marshall (born October 6, 1965), also known and credited as Mike Marshall and Mike Meezy, is the former lead singer of American R&B group Timex Social Club. In 1986, he had taken an offer to join Run DMC's Raising Hell Tour, before he left the group.In the 1990s, Marshall worked with the group called Mo'fessionals and made a few songs with them. In 1995, he did a feature for rap group Luniz and sang the chorus on their hit "I Got 5 On It", which samples Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad" (1987). Marshall is the only currently active member of the Timex Social Club. He completed the album K.I.M. with rapper Equipto in 2004. He also had an international top 10 dance hit, "Your Body", with DJ Tom Novy in 2005. He released a solo album, Love, Lies & Life with the hit song "So Young" featuring San Quinn in 2006. In 2008, Psychopathic Records sub-label Hatchet House released the Tunnel Runners compilation featuring Marshall alongside Bay Area horrorcore rap artist Mars on the song "They Watchin Me". The compilation entered the Top 25 rap albums on Billboard in its first week. Michael Marshall still tours and has completed his second solo R&B album, Right Where I'm 'posed 2 Be.

Michael "Marsh" Marshall (13 August 1983) is a British skeptical activist, freelance journalist, public speaker, podcaster, author and blogger. He is co-founder and vice-president of the Merseyside Skeptics Society and co-host of its official podcast Skeptics with a K, project director of the Good Thinking Society, and has occasionally written for The Times, The Guardian and New Statesman.

Early life

Michael Marshall was born on 13 August 1983 in Bishop Auckland, North East England. He obtained a BA in English in Liverpool, and has worked there in marketing and web design since.

Foundation

In February 2009, Marshall, Mike Hall and Colin Harris founded the Merseyside Skeptics Society. He commented that skepticism is "not about just saying 'no' to things, it's about thinking about them. And we use the American spelling – skeptic – because, in the States, the word isn't as strongly linked to cynicism. It's not seen as being as negative as it is over here." In July that year, they launched the podcast Skeptics with a K, which Marshall described as "a fairly-shambolic, overly-enthusiastic and snarky mix of science, skepticism and sarcasm." The idea for SwaK came from the conversations Mike and Marsh were having in the pub about news and ideas, such as a homeopathy overdose, that they wanted to share with a wider audience.
