Michael L. Nash

Michael L. Nash is a media executive who most recently served as Warner Music Group's Executive Vice President of Digital Strategy and Business Development. In that role he oversaw digital music strategy, including new media projects and strategic relationships with mobile phone companies, music download/streaming partners (such as Apple, Rhapsody, Spotify, MySpace Music, Pandora and others) and social media networks. Nash also managed the company’s negotiations with digital music service providers. He left the company in September 2011.

Career history

Labeled a “visionary” by The Atlantic Monthly, Nash has been a part of the media technology and innovation front for much of his career, including, between 1994 and 1997, as founder and CEO of Inscape, an interactive entertainment and games publishing joint venture with WMG and HBO that won numerous product awards. In 1996, Entertainment Weekly named him one of multimedia's ten most influential forward-thinking figures. Before that, Nash served as Director of the Criterion Collection, working closely with directors and artists such as Robert Altman, David Bowie, Terry Gilliam, Louis Malle, Nicolas Roeg and John Singleton. Prior to joining WMG, Nash was Executive Director of the Madison Project, a music industry-first digital distribution trial.

Michael is the first posthumous (and eleventh overall) album of previously unreleased tracks and seventh under Epic Records by American singer Michael Jackson. It was released on December 10, 2010 by Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment.Michael was the first release of all new Michael Jackson material in nine years since Invincible in 2001. Production of the album was handled by several producers such as Michael Jackson, Teddy Riley, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, C. "Tricky" Stewart, Eddie Cascio, among others and features guest performances by Akon, 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz. Michael is the seventh Jackson album to be released by Sony and Motown/Universal since Jackson's death in June 2009.

The album produced four singles: "Hold My Hand", released on November 15, 2010, which reached number 39 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, "Hollywood Tonight", released on February 11, 2011, and "Behind the Mask" released on February 21, 2011. The music video for "Hold My Hand" was directed by Mark Pellington, and had its worldwide debut on December 9, 2010. The music video for "Hollywood Tonight" was directed by Wayne Isham, who also directed the video for Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" in 1995 at one of the very same locations where he filmed it—the Pantages Theatre near the famed corner of Hollywood and Vine. The video had its worldwide debut on March 10, 2011. "(I Like) The Way You Love Me" was released in South Korea as a digital single on January 18, 2011, and released to Italian and Chinese radio stations in July 2011.

Michael Row the Boat Ashore

"Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" (or "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore" or "Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore" or "Michael Row That Gospel Boat") is a negro spiritual. It was first noted during the American Civil War at St. Helena Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina. It is cataloged as Roud Folk Song Index No. 11975.

It was sung by former slaves whose owners had abandoned the island before the Union navy arrived to enforce a blockade. Charles Pickard Ware, an abolitionist and Harvard graduate who had come to supervise the plantations on St. Helena Island from 1862 to 1865, wrote the song down in music notation as he heard the freedmen sing it. Ware's cousin, William Francis Allen, reported in 1863 that while he rode in a boat across Station Creek, the former slaves sang the song as they rowed.

The song was first published in Slave Songs of the United States, by Allen, Ware, and Lucy McKim Garrison, in 1867.

Nash (tugboat)

Nash is a World War II U.S. Army Large Tug (LT) class seagoing tugboat built as hull #298 at Jakobson Shipyard, Oyster Bay NY as a Design 271 steel hulled Large Tug delivered November, 1943. Originally named Major Elisha K. Henson (LT-5), in 1946 she was renamed John F. Nash by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Since retirement from the Corps of Engineers, LT-5 has been renamed Major Elisha K. Henson. LT-5 is the last functional U.S. Army vessel that participated in Normandy landings.

LT-5 sailed to Great Britain in February 1944 in anticipation of Operation Overlord, the planned allied invasion Europe. On June 6, 1944, LT-5 sailed for Normandy with two barges as part of Operation Mulberry, in support of Overlord. Under fire, the tug ferried supplies to the landing beaches for the next month, in the process shooting down a German fighter aircraft on June 9th.

After the war, LT-5 returned to the United States. Assigned to the Buffalo District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in May 1946, LT-5 was renamed John F. Nash. Nash was the Buffalo District's Senior Engineer and Chief Civilian Assistant for the period 1932 to 1941. From 1946 to 1989, Nash served the lower Great Lakes region by assisting in the maintenance of harbors, and construction projects that included the St. Lawrence Seaway in the 1950s.

Charlie (Street Fighter)

Charlie Nash (チャーリー・ナッシュ, Chārī Nasshu) is a fictional character in the Street Fighter video game series. He was first mentioned in 1991's Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, in which he is established to be a deceased friend of Guile who was killed by M. Bison prior to the events of the game's tournament. He made his first appearance as a playable fighter in 1995's Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams, although he's been depicted in a few Street Fighter related media with varying character designs prior to debuting in the games. He is characterized as a member of the United States Air Force charged with finding M. Bison, and destroy his organization Shadaloo. As a playable character, his fighting style is similar to Guile's, sharing some of his signature special moves such as the Sonic Boom and the Somersault Kick.

Traditionally the character was known simply as Nash (ナッシュ, Nasshu) in Japan and as Charlie in English versions. The different names were due to a suggestion by a staff member in Capcom's U.S. subsidiary who felt that "Nash" was not a natural sounding enough name for American players to relate to. Originally the two names were not used together at first, but were later combined in certain licensed Street Fighter media - particularly Udon's comic book series - to form the full name "Charlie Nash", which was officially adopted for the games starting in Street Fighter IV. The upcoming Street Fighter V will retain the name "Nash" for the character in every region, abandoning the usual practice of changing it to "Charlie" in overseas versions.
