Michael Cooper

Michael Jerome Cooper (born April 15, 1956) is an American basketball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA, and retired professional player. Prior to joining Atlanta, he coached the USC Women of Troy college basketball team. He is a former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers, and has coached in the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA DL. Michael Cooper is the only person to win a championship, as either a coach or a player, in the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA Development League.

Early career

Cooper was born in Los Angeles, California. When he was three years old, he cut one of his knees severely, requiring 100 stitches to close. At the time the doctor said that he would never be able to walk. He attended Pasadena City College before transferring to the University of New Mexico. He played for the New Mexico Lobos for two seasons, 1976–78, and was named first team All-Western Athletic Conference. In his senior season the Lobos won the WAC title, with Cooper averaging 16.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

Michael Cooper (born 1930) is a historian. A Jesuit, Cooper has written extensively on 15th- and 16th-century encounters between Jesuit missionaries and Japan. He was editor of the journal Monumenta Nipponica in Tokyo for 26 years.

Michael Cooper (musician)

Michael "Ibo" Cooper is a 1962 born Jamaican reggae musician and musical educator. He was member of the pop-band Inner Circle and founding member of the reggae band Third World. He has also appeared with reggae artist Burning Spear.

He currently teaches full-time as head of the Caribbean, Latin American and jazz department (Popular Music Studies) at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica.

Michael Cooper (rugby league)

Michael Cooper (born 15 September 1989 in Warrington) is an English professional rugby league footballer for St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL. He previously played for Warrington Wolves in the Super League. He plays as a prop or lock. He began his career with Warrington when he was a part of the an Under-11s side who went through a whole season undefeated, winning the championship along the way. This was the catalyst that saw him continue through the junior ranks and eventually become an integral part of the first team.

Mike had a loan period at Castleford in 2010. While at Castleford he got some regular first team action, due to Castleford's crippling injury situation. He scored two tries.

St George Illawarra confirmed the signing of English prop Mike Cooper on a two-year deal starting next NRL season. The Dragons agreed to a release fee with Super League club Warrington Wolves to sign the 24-year-old, who had been under contract to the Wolves through to the end of the 2014 season.
