Miami Field

Miami Field was a multi-purpose stadium at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

History

It opened in 1896 as Athletic Park. It was home to the Redskins college football team prior to the Yager Stadium opening in 1983.

The stadium had a capacity of 7,240 by 1928. When it closed in 1982 capacity was 14,800. At that time, it was the second oldest college football stadium after Franklin Field. Almost immediately upon Miami Field being razed, new campus buildings were constructed on the site, the largest of which being Pearson Hall.

In the final configuration, the stands were all metal, and were built above ground level. The playing field was oriented north-south. North Patterson Avenue ran parallel to and behind the visitor side stands, which were located on the eastern side of the stadium. The intersection of High Street (US 27) and Patterson Avenue was at the south east corner of the stadium, with High Street being perpendicular to the playing field.

When Yager Stadium was constructed, the old Miami Field home side stands were reused as the Yager Stadium visitor side stands, whilst the visitor side stands were divided in two, and used as the endzone seats. These remained as a part of Yager Stadium until replaced in the early 2000s when Yager was renovated. Brick ticket booths were also moved to Yager Stadium and the scoreboard with its clock-like hands was given to the College Football Hall of Fame for display in its museum.

Miami Orange Bowl

The Miami Orange Bowl was an outdoor athletic stadium in Miami, Florida, west of downtown in Little Havana. Considered a landmark, it was the home stadium for the Miami Hurricanes college football team. It also hosted the professional Miami Dolphins for their first 21 seasons, until the opening of Joe Robbie Stadium (now Sun Life Stadium) in nearby Miami Gardens in 1987. The stadium was the temporary home of the FIU Golden Panthers while its FIU Stadium underwent expansion during the 2007 season.

From 1966 to 1968, and again in the 1970s, a live dolphin was situated in a water tank in the open (east) end of the Orange Bowl. He would jump in the tank to celebrate touchdowns and field goals. The tank that was set up in the 1970s was manufactured by Evan Bush and maintained during the games by Evan Bush and Dene Whitaker. Flipper was removed from the Orange Bowl after 1968 to save costs and the 1970s due to stress. In the film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Snowflake, a live dolphin who does special behaviors after the Dolphins score a touchdown, was the basis of the film after he is kidnapped as part of a revenge plot against Dan Marino.

Generic top-level domain

Generic top-level domains (gTLDs) are one of the categories of top-level domains (TLDs) maintained by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) for use in the Domain Name System of the Internet. A top-level domain is the last label of every fully qualified domain name. They are called generic for historic reasons; initially, they were contrasted with country-specific TLDs in RFC 920.

The core group of generic top-level domains consists of the com, info, net, and org domains. In addition, the domains biz, name, and pro are also considered generic; however, these are designated as restricted, because registrations within them require proof of eligibility within the guidelines set for each.

Historically, the group of generic top-level domains included domains, created in the early development of the domain name system, that are now sponsored by designated agencies or organizations and are restricted to specific types of registrants. Thus, domains edu, gov, int, and mil are now considered sponsored top-level domains, much like the themed top-level domains (e.g., jobs). The entire group of domains that do not have a geographic or country designation (see country-code top-level domain) is still often referred to by the term generic TLDs.

Pop (U2 album)

Pop is the ninth studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Flood, Howie B, and Steve Osborne, and was released on 3 March 1997 on Island Records. The album was a continuation of the band's 1990s musical reinvention, as they incorporated alternative rock, techno, dance, and electronica influences into their sound. Pop employed a variety of production techniques that were relatively new to U2, including sampling, loops, programmed drum machines, and sequencing.

Recording sessions began in 1995 with various record producers, including Nellee Hooper, Flood, Howie B, and Osborne, who were introducing the band to various electronica influences. At the time, drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. was inactive due to a back injury, prompting the other band members to take different approaches to songwriting. Upon Mullen's return, the band began re-working much of their material but ultimately struggled to complete songs. After the band allowed manager Paul McGuinness to book their upcoming 1997 PopMart Tour before the record was completed, they felt rushed into delivering it. Even after delaying the album's release date from the 1996 Christmas and holiday season to March 1997, U2 ran out of time in the studio, working up to the last minute to complete songs.

Miami station (Amtrak)

Miami is a train station in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the border of Miami and Hialeah. It serves Amtrak, the national passenger rail service of the United States, and is the southern end of the Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains. It is scheduled to be replaced by Miami Central Station in summer 2016.

The Miami station was built on the site of the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad southern coach yards, to which Amtrak moved in 1977 when it abandoned the original Seaboard station at 2210 NW 7th Avenue in Allapattah, two miles north of downtown. Constructed in 1978, the building is one of many built under Amtrak's Standard Stations Program, an attempt to create a unified brand and identity for the company's passenger facilities in its early years. It is considered a Type 300A station, meaning it was designed to accommodate at least 300 passengers at the busiest hour of the day. Within the Amtrak system, it is similar to the station in Minneapolis-St. Paul, also built in 1978.
