Melvin, Texas

Melvin is a town in McCulloch County, Texas, United States. The population was 179 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Melvin is located at 31°11′49″N 99°34′50″W / 31.19694°N 99.58056°W / 31.19694; -99.58056 (31.197066, -99.580582).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 155 people, 68 households, and 39 families residing in the town. The population density was 329.2 people per square mile (127.3/km²). There were 100 housing units at an average density of 212.4 per square mile (82.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 87.10% White, 12.26% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 27.10% of the population.

There were 68 households out of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 38.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 3.00.
