Melrose Park is a former census-designated place in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,114 at the 2000 census. On September 15, 2002, Melrose Park was annexed to the city of Fort Lauderdale, and is now a neighborhood.

Geography

Melrose Park is located at 26°6′50″N 80°11′37″W / 26.11389°N 80.19361°W / 26.11389; -80.19361 (26.113764, -80.193587).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 7,114 people, 1,975 households, and 1,617 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,051.9/km² (7,877.1/mi²). There were 2,072 housing units at an average density of 888.9/km² (2,294.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 10.05% White (8.1% were Non-Hispanic White,) 82.65% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.62% from other races, and 4.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.89% of the population.

Melrose Park station (Illinois)

Melrose Park is a Metra commuter railroad station in Melrose Park, a western suburb of Chicago. It is served by the Union Pacific/West Line. Trains go east to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago and as far west as Elburn, Illinois. Travel time to Ogilvie is 23 to 29 minutes, depending on the train. There are 15 daily inbound trains on weekdays, and five each on Saturday and Sunday.

Melrose Park was originally built by the Chicago and North Western Railway and acquired by Metra. The station is at Main Street and North 18th Avenue, in Melrose Park's business district. Pace suburban buses stop one block to the west, on Broadway Street, and one block to the north, on West Lake Street.
