Mei Lan

Mei Lan (simplified Chinese: 美兰; traditional Chinese: 美蘭; intended meaning: "Atlanta Beauty"), is a male giant panda. He was born at Zoo Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia on September 6, 2006, after a record-setting 35-hour labor. Originally identified by zoo staffers as female, Mei Lan was determined to be male by staff in China at the Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding. He is the first offspring of Lun Lun and Yang Yang, who are also the parents of Xi Lan, Po, and twins Mei Lun and Mei Huan. Mei Lan was relocated to Chengdu, China on February 4, 2010.

Naming

Mei Lan was named at a naming ceremony held on December 15, 2006, following the Chinese tradition of naming panda cubs when they are about 100 days old. He received person of the year from Atlanta's The Sunday Paper on December 24, 2006. In so doing, he defeated Atlanta humans Michael Vick, Cynthia McKinney, Dallas Austin, Sonny Perdue, and Bernard Marcus.

Mei Lan, which may also transliterate as "American Orchid" or "Beautiful Orchid", was submitted by WSB-TV, the Atlanta ABC affiliate. The name was chosen from a public online poll on ajc.com after it won 22% of the votes.

Élan

Élan Corporation plc was a major drugs firm based in Dublin, Ireland, which had major interests in the United States. It was listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ELN, the Irish Stock Exchange as ELN.I, and the London Stock Exchange as ELN.L. In 2013, the company merged with Perrigo to form Perrigo Company PLC.

History

The company was founded in Ireland in 1969. In the late 1990s its value on the Irish Stock Exchange reached over €20bn. However, in 2002 an accounting scandal and investor reactions to the global slump, caused a major devaluation resulting in a share price slump of over 90%. Since then the company has regained its growth path under the reign of a new American CEO Kelly Martin. In July 2010, Élan was fined $203m for its marketing of epilepsy drugs.

In February 2013 Élan decided to dispose of the rights to sell Tysabri to Biogen Idec for $3.25 billion.

Lan (tribe)

The Lan (Chinese: 蘭) tribe was one of the five member tribes of the old Xiongnu people who lived during the Han Dynasty in Northern Wei.

History

The old Xiongnu people had five tribes: Luandi (攣鞮), Suibu (須卜), Huyan (呼衍), Lan (蘭), and Qiulin (丘林). According to the Chinese assimilation policy of Xiaowen, the Xiongnu Chinese of Lan (蘭) get the surname Lan (蘭). Their families are part of the Liu (劉) family of Han Zhao.

National Liberation Movement (Albania)

The National Liberation Movement (Lëvizja Nacional Çlirimtare or Lëvizja Antifashiste Nacional Çlirimtare (LANÇ)), also translated as National Liberation Front, was an Albanian resistance organization that fought in World War II. It was created on 16 September 1942, in a conference held in Pezë, a village near Tirana. Apart the communist figures which had the majority in the General Council it also included known nationalist figures like Myslym Peza, etc. The Albanian National Liberation Front was later transformed in May 1944 in the government of Albania and its leaders became government members. It was replaced in August 1945 by the Democratic Front.

The Albanian National Wie international Army (Albanian: Ushtria Nacionalclirimtare) was the army created during the National Liberation Movement.

Albania did not put an organized resistance to the Italian invasion of 7 April 1939. However different Albanian groups of patriots such as Mujo Ulqinaku and Abaz Kupi made a brief resistance to the invasion force in Durrës on the day of invasion. Durrës was captured on April 7, Tirana the following day, Shkodër and Gjirokastër on April 9, and almost the entire country by April 10.

Meiō (明応), also known as Mei-ō, was a Japanese era name (年号,, nengō,, lit. "year name") after Entoku and before Bunki. This period spanned the years from July 1492 through February 1501. Reigning emperors were Go-Tsuchimikado-tennō (後土御門天皇) and Go-Kashiwabara-tennō (後柏原天皇).

mei is the sixth full-length studio album by the American rock band Echolyn, released in 2002.

Unlike its precursor Cowboy Poems Free (2000), mei is a typical progressive (symphonic) rock album in that it consists of few, longer, songs with many instrumental sections and complex structures instead of the normal song structure, including verse, chorus etc.

In 2003 Echolyn released an official bootleg recording titled Jersey Tomato vol. 2 (live at the Metlar Bodine Museum) where mei is included as the ninth and last track. It takes up the whole second disc and the length of the track is just over 50 minutes. The song, and the rest of the album, is available for download on the band's website.
