Mehmet Ali Ağca

Mehmet Ali Ağca (Turkish pronunciation: [ˈaːdʒa]; born January 9, 1958) is a Turkishassassin with Kurdish origin who murdered left-wing journalist Abdi İpekçi on February 1, 1979, and later shot and wounded Pope John Paul II on May 13, 1981, after escaping from a Turkish prison. After serving 19 years of imprisonment in Italy where he was visited by the Pope and converted to Christianity, he was deported to Turkey, where he served a ten-year sentence. He was released on January 18, 2010. Ağca has described himself as a mercenary with no political orientation, although he is known to have been a member of the Turkish ultra-nationalist Grey Wolves organization.

On December 27, 2014, 33 years after his crime, Mehmet Ali Ağca publicly showed up at the Vatican to lay white roses on the recently canonized Saint John Paul II's tomb and said he wanted to meet Pope Francis, a request that was denied.

Early life

Ağca was born in the Hekimhan district, Malatya Province in Turkey. As a youth, he became a petty criminal and a member of numerous street gangs in his hometown. He became a smuggler between Turkey and Bulgaria.

Shewket Yalqun

Shewket Yalqun (simplified Chinese: 肖开提·亚力昆; traditional Chinese: 肖開提·亞力昆; pinyin: Xiāokāití Yàlìkūn; Uyghur: شەۋكەت يالقۇن‎; born 7 February 1993 in Artux, Xinjiang), formerly known as Memet Ali (Chinese: 买买提·艾力; pinyin: Mǎimǎití Àilì; Uyghur: مەمەت ئەلى‎), is a Uyghur-Chinese footballer who currently plays for Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard in the China League One.

Club career

Shewket Yalqun transferred to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande for a fee of ¥100,000 in January 2012. He used the name Memet Ali to register for the 2012 league season. He made his senior debut on 30 March 2012 in a 1-0 win against Shanghai Shenhua, coming on as a substitute for Gao Lin in the 81st minute. However, he was sent to play for the reserve team after Italian manager Marcello Lippi took charge of the team.

He was involved in an age controversy in early 2013 when Guangzhou found out he used a different name Shewket Yalqun to register in the league. Guangzhou reported it to the Chinese Football Association. In March 2013, he received a ban of three months for age falsification. He returned to field on 10 July 2013 in the fourth round of 2013 Chinese FA Cup in which Guangzhou beat Dalian Ruilong 7-1. On 7 August 2013, he scored his first senior goal in the fifth round of FA Cup which ensured Guangzhou draw with Hangzhou Greentown 2-2 after 90 minutes and beat Hangzhou 5-3 in the penalty shootout.

Ali (Arabic: علي‎, ʿAlī) is a male Arabic name derived from the Arabic root ʕ-l-w, which literally means "high" or "elevated". It is a common name in Arab countries and the rest of the Muslim world. Islamic traditional use of the name goes back to the Islamic leader Ali ibn Abi Talib but the name is identical in form and meaning to the Hebrew: עֵלִי ‎, Eli, which goes back to the High Priest Eli in the biblical Books of Samuel.

Cho Yong-Jin (Korean: 조용진), famously known as Ali (stylized as ALi), is a South Korean singer-songwriter famous for her work on Korean pop music in the early twenty-first century. Her stage name is a motif from Muhammad Ali. This is so that it can be engraved easily by the masses. Following her debut in 2009, she is primarily known for her strong vocals and her time as a contestant on the KBS program Immortal Songs 2.

Career

Following her debut in 2009, she had already gained fame for her appearances on music shows, most notably Immortal Songs 2 on KBS2. She also worked as a professor in applied musical arts at the Seoul Technical Arts College.

ALi released her first album SOULri in December 2011 which was strangely two years after her official debut. One released track, "Na Young", garnered immediate controversy as its lyrics referenced a case of sexual assault that had been a very public case in South Korea, with many detractors criticizing the song to be insensitive to its subject. ALi would later address this controversy by revealing that she herself was a survivor of sexual assault.
