Maysa Figueira Monjardim, better known as Maysa Matarazzo (São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro; June 6, 1936 – January 22, 1977), daughter of Alcibíades Guaraná Monjardim and his wife, Inah Figueira, was Brazilian singer, composer, and actress. She is also associated with Bossa nova music but is widely known as a torch song (fossa) interpreter.
Maysa showed talent at a young age and by twelve had written a samba song, which later became a hit from her first album. She married André Matarazzo Filho, a member of a wealthy and traditional São Paulo family, and descendant of Count Francesco Matarazzo in 1954 at the age of 18 and two years later had a son, Jayme, who later would become a television director. In the late 1950s she formed a successful bossa nova group.
Her tour to Buenos Aires was a great success, and extended to Chile and Uruguay, but Maysa had an affair with the show's producer, Ronaldo Bôscoli, a journalist and composer linked romantically to bossa nova's muse Nara Leão. This led to a break between Nara and Ronaldo, as well as a fracture in the bossa nova movement. Maysa became "persona non grata" both to the bossa-novistas and the protest singers and her career faltered. She reacted by marrying Spaniard music producer Miguel Anzana, with whom she moved to Spain and began a series of presentations not only in Spain, but also Portugal, Italy and France.
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
Alone at last
You know that I've been thinking for some time
How to get you here inside these arms of mine
I've been anticipating
The two of us trading a love so true
I had my doubts, I'd be the lucky one
Oh boy, I thought this day would never come
For so long, I've been waiting
Hoping and praying for this moment with you
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
No one in this world could have told me
We'd be alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
Open your arms and just hold me
'Cause we're alone at last
I remember how you'd barely look my way
Wouldn't know me if I asked the time of day
So tell me, what were my chances?
My dreams of romance would come true, they were few
I was just another face among the crowd
I call your name but others drown me out
But now there's nobody else
I gotcha you all to myself tonight
And not a moment to sleep
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
No one in this world could have told me
We'd be alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
Open your arms and just hold me
'Cause we're alone at last
Oh, let this moment be
All I ever dream it to be
Oh baby, baby please
If you'll turn the moonlight up
I'll turn the sunlight down
Let's fill the night with sweet love sound
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
No one in this world could have told me
We'd be alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
Open your arms and just hold me
'Cause we're alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
No one in this world could have told me
We'd be alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
Open your arms and just hold me
'Cause we're alone at last
Alone at last
I thought you never ask
