Matt Coates

Matt Coates (born July 15, 1991) is a Canadian football wide receiver who is currently a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He played college football at the New Mexico Military Institute and attended Markham District High School in Markham, Ontario. He also played junior football for the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League.

Early years

Coates played high school football for the attended Markham District High School Marauders and was named a two-time Team M.V.P. The Marauders won the Metro Bowl his senior year. He received interest from several universities but decided to become an electrician like his father. He played flag football in a recreational league while working on his apprenticeship in his father's business.

Junior football

Coates played for the Hamilton Hurricanes after receiving an offer from the Hurricanes' coach Jay Hayes, who he played flag football with, to play for them. He returned to the Hurricanes after spending one season playing college football in 2012. He recorded 630 yards on 36 receptions for the Hurricanes and set a new OFC record with 13 touchdowns in 2013. He was also named a CJFL All-Canadian in 2013.

Matt, Switzerland

Matt is a village, and former municipality, in the municipality of Glarus Süd and canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Matt lies in the valley of the Sernf river, and consists of the village of Matt itself, and the mountain hamlet of Weissenberge.

History

Matt is first mentioned in 1273 as Mattun.

In 1879, the valley of the Linth river was connected to the Swiss railway network by the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway line from Weesen, but Matt, in the side-valley of the Sernf river, remained unserved. This impacted the local economy, and various proposals were brought forward to provide rail service to the Sernf valley. Eventually, on 8 July 1905, the Sernftal tramway, a metre gauge roadside electric tramway, was opened connecting Schwanden with Matt and other communities as far as Elm. Service on this line continued until 31 May 1969, when it was replaced by road services. In 1967, a cable car was opened to link Matt and Weissenberge.

On 1 January 2011, Matt became part of the new municipality of Glarus Süd.
