Massacre

A massacre is a specific incident which involves the deliberate slaughter of people, although a tight definition has never emerged.

Origin and history of term

The first recorded use in English of the word massacre to label an event is Marlowe's (circa 1600), The massacre at Paris (a reference to the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre). The word ultimately derives from Middle Low German *matskelen meaning to slaughter.

Massacre is also a verb that means to kill (people or, less commonly, animals) in numbers, especially brutally and indiscriminately. The first known use for this meaning was in 1588.

The term is also used metaphorically for events that do not involve deaths, such as the Saturday Night Massacre—the dismissals and resignations of political appointees during Richard Nixon's Watergate scandal.

Definitions

Robert Melson's "basic working definition," reads, "by massacre we shall mean the intentional killing by political actors of a significant number of relatively defenseless people... the motives for massacre need not be rational in order for the killings to be intentional... Mass killings can be carried out for various reasons, including a response to false rumors... political massacre... should be distinguished from criminal or pathological mass killings... as political bodies we of course include the state and its agencies, but also nonstate actors..."

Escape the Fate (album)

Escape the Fate is the third studio album by American rock band Escape the Fate. It was released worldwide on November 2, 2010. It is the band's first and only album released on DGC/Interscope following their departure from Epitaph Records. The album charted No. 25 on the Billboard 200, No. 1 at Hard Rock Albums, No. 14 in a Rock Albums, No. 13 in Alternative and Independent charts and No. 118 in Digital Albums Chart.Upon release, the album has received generally positive reviews, and is Escape the Fate's most successful album to date.

Pre-production and production

Although they dropped Ronnie Radke because of his jail sentence, the band continued to move forward with former Blessthefall singer, Craig Mabbit. In an interview during Warped Tour 2009, bassist Max Green stated that the album will feature a song co-written by Mick Mars of Mötley Crüe, who approached Escape the Fate to collaborate on some songs, but later was revealed that they decided against putting the song on the album and saving for a future release. Max Green also confirmed through Formspring that there will be a song co-written by guitarist John 5 of Rob Zombie, later seen to be "Liars And Monsters".

Loud (Half Japanese album)

Loud is an album by the rock group Half Japanese, first released on the Armageddon label in 1981.

The album was the band's first release since the line up was expanded with four new members (two saxophone players, a guitarist and a drummer) and contains elements of free jazz. The album includes a cover version of The Doors' "The Spy".

It was reissued on compact disc in 2004 on Drag City together with the Horrible EP as Loud and Horrible.

Much (TV channel)

Much (formerly and commonly known as MuchMusic) is a Canadian English language Category A specialty channel owned by Bell Media.

The channel first launched on August 31, 1984, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, as one of the country's first ever specialty channels. Upon its launch, and for much of its life, the network primarily aired music programming, including blocks of music videos and original series focusing on musicians and artists. However, in recent years, especially under its current owner, the channel increasingly downplayed its music programming in favor of teen dramas and comedies.

History

MuchMusic was licensed on April 2, 1984 by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to CHUM/City-TV. It had faced competition from two other proposed services. One of them, CMTV Canadian Music Television, was deemed not to have sufficient financial resources. The third applicant was Rogers Radio Broadcasting. The CRTC believed that the Canadian market could only support one music video service and CHUM's proposal was chosen because of various commitments it had made and the company's expertise in music programming.

Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace

Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace is the third studio album by American country music duo Big & Rich. It was released on June 5, 2007. The album's lead-off single "Lost In This Moment," became the duo's first Number One single on the Hot Country Songs chart. Also released from this album were the title track and "Loud", which respectively peaked at No. 37 and No. 42 on the same chart. The latter was the first single of the duo's career not to reach Top 40.

Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace debuted at number six on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, selling about 103,000 copies in its first week. As of August 25, 2007, the album has sold 325,577 copies in the US. A deluxe edition containing the album along with a live DVD of the Rhapsody Originals performance was offered as well as a Walmart exclusive edition which included a DVD of the duo's soundcheck session. A deluxe digital version was also offered.
