Rendition aircraft

Rendition aircraft are aircraft used by national governments to move prisoners internationally, a practice known as rendition, the illegal version of which is referred to as extraordinary rendition. The aircraft listed in this article have been identified in international news media as being used for prisoner transports.

N221SG

N221SG is a nondescript Learjet 35 with the tail number N221SG, reported in the media to possibly be used as a US Department of Defense prisoner transport. The plane is registered to Path Corporation of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, identified as a CIA front company.

When the aircraft landed in Copenhagen, Denmark on March 7, 2005, the Danish opposition party Red-Green Alliance demanded an explanation of the plane's presence.

The last flight originated in Istanbul, Turkey on March 7, 2005. Turkish media reported at the time that individuals of interest to the CIA captured by the country's security services were to be handed over to the American intelligence agency.

N700 Series Shinkansen

The N700 series (N700系) is a Japanese Shinkansen high-speed train with tilting capability developed jointly by JR Central and JR West for use on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines since 2007, and also operated by JR Kyushu on the Kyushu Shinkansen line.

N700 series trains have a maximum speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), and tilting of up to one degree allows the trains to maintain 270 km/h (168 mph) even on 2,500 m (8,200 ft) radius curves that previously had a maximum speed of 255 km/h (158 mph). Another feature of the N700 is that it accelerates quicker than other shinkansen trains, with a maximum acceleration rate of 2.6 km/h/s. This enables it to reach 270 km/h (170 mph) in only three minutes. Because of these improvements, trains can travel between Tokyo and Osaka on a Nozomi run in as little as 2 hours and 25 minutes (5 minutes faster than before).

Operations

N700 series trains gradually replaced 300, 500 and 700 series sets on Nozomi services, and by the end of February 2009, the N700 series were responsible for 74 Nozomi services per day. All Nozomi through runs (over the full route between Tokyo and Hakata) were scheduled to use the N700 series exclusively by 2009. By 2011, all regularly scheduled Nozomi services, including runs limited only to the Tokaido Shinkansen, were operated by the N700 series.

Season synopsis

Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle), a Broadway writing team come up with the idea of a new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, Bombshell. Producer Eileen Rand (Anjelica Huston), in the midst of divorce proceedings from her philandering husband, jumps on board and brings with her Derek Wills (Jack Davenport), a difficult but brilliant director. Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) is initially cast as Marilyn, but is forced to deal with competition from the talented, yet naive ensemble member Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee). Julia's former lover Michael Swift (Will Chase) is initially cast in the role of Joe DiMaggio. However when Julia and Michael's reunion causes serious trouble in her marriage to Frank (Brian d'Arcy James), the decision is made to fire Michael. The role of Marilyn is recast with film star Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman), leaving Ivy devastated. After a somewhat disastrous out-of-town opening in Boston, Rebecca is felled by a peanut allergy and the actor playing Joe departs the production for a better gig. Derek casts Karen in the role of Marilyn and Michael is reinstated as Joe. Karen discovers Ivy has slept with her fiancé Dev (Raza Jaffrey), while Eileen finds out that her assistant Ellis (Jaime Cepero) was the one who poisoned Rebecca and fires him. Karen gets through her debut and the season ends with the closing number being applauded by the audience.

Pall Mall Groove

Pall Mall Groove is an album released by Switch, under the name of Hot Ice. After the White Heat fiasco, the band recorded this album for Bernd Lichters. It was initially released only in Germany, Bernd's home country, in 1977 through Polydor Records. It was eventually released in the US in 1979, now renamed Smash, on the MCA Records-distributed Source label. In 2007, it was released again (still titled Smash) on a limited edition CD through Bernd's own Burndsman Records. This album appeared a year before their Motown debut as Switch. Hot Ice was Gregory Williams, Jody Sims, Phillip Ingram, Bobby DeBarge, Tommy DeBarge, T.C. Brown, Stanley Brown and Arnett Hayes. The album includes a re-recording of "Funk Freak" from the previous White Heat album.

Smash (Russian band)

Smash!! (in Russian: СМЭШ!!) was a Russian pop duo formed in 2000 which consisted of members Sergey Lazarev and Vlad Topalov. They sang mainly in English, and released their music in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. They were most popular among teenagers in Russia and Southeast Asia. The band split up in 2006.

Biography

Beginnings

Sergey and Vlad were signed in 2000 with the music label Universal Music Russia, under the name 'Smash!!'. In January 2002, the duo shot a music video for their first single "Should Have Loved You More". In August of the same year, they won the New Wave contest in Jūrmala, Latvia. They'd originally worked together as part of the children's group Neposedi, alongside Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, the two girls that would eventually become t.A.T.u..
