Martin Allen

Martin James Allen (born 14 August 1965) is an English former football player and current head coach of Barnet. He played more than 100 games for each Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United before finishing his playing career with Portsmouth and Southend United. Five years later, he took his first job in management, at non-league Barnet. He has since managed Brentford, Milton Keynes Dons, Leicester City, Cheltenham Town, Barnet and Notts County. He rejoined Barnet as manager on 16 April 2012 on a short term, three-match contract succeeding Lawrie Sanchez. In July 2012 he became manager of Gillingham and in the 2012–13 season led the team to the Football League Two title, earning Allen his first promotion as a manager and Gillingham's first divisional title in 49 years. He was sacked as Gillingham manager in October 2013. He played as a midfielder.

Martin Allen was the chairman, co-founder and largest individual stockholder (2,272,866 shares) of Computervision Corp. Its first product, CADDS-1, was aimed at the printed circuit layout, and 2-D drafting markets.

Allen netted $34 million when, at age 57, he sold the company to Prime Computer Inc. on 29 January 1988.

Martin Allen (born in Wakefield,Yorkshire) is an English playwright and screenwriter.

His first play, the one-act Taking The Floor (1982), formed part of an entertainment at the Bloomsbury Theatre for the launch of a new album by The Passions. In 1983 his play Red Saturday for Paines Plough, directed by Tim Fywell, toured the UK and played at the New End Theatre in Hampstead. It won the 1983 Samuel Beckett Award, and in 1984 transferred to the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, then under the auspices of Danny Boyle. It was published by Faber. In 1985, as part of the Thames TV Playwrights scheme, he was writer in residence at Hampstead Theatre where his play Particular Friendships, directed by Michael Attenborough, won Thames TV’s best play award for that year. It was also published by Faber.

In 1986 his original screenplay Song of Experience was directed by Stephen Frears for the BBC Screen Two series. He then wrote the screenplay for Paul Greengrass’ debut feature Resurrected (St Pancras Films & Channel 4) which was entered in competition at the 1989 Berlin Film Festival where it won both OCIC and Interfilm awards for best film. It was given a UK theatrical release later that year.
