Mark Walker (songwriter)

Mark Walker (1846–1924) was a fisherman and songwriter from Tickle Cove, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland (now Newfoundland and Labrador). He is best remembered for writing the song "Tickle Cove Pond".

Mark Walker was born in Tickle Cove, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador in 1846. He married Mary Downey of Coachman's Cove on August 30, 1873, and moved to Sweet Bay, Bonavista Bay around 1875. There he worked as a fisherman, a boat builder, and the first postmaster of Sweet Bay.

Some of Mark Walker's relatives have asserted that Walker also wrote "The Star of Logy Bay," and that the song was originally called "Love's Lamentations."

It is believed that Mark Walker wrote all of his songs before he moved to Boston in 1906.

Mark Walker (British Army officer)

General Sir Mark Walker VC KCB (24 November 1827 – 18 July 1902) was born in Gore Port, Finea, County Westmeath in Ireland, son of Captain Alexander Walker and Elizabeth Elliott. He was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

During the Crimean War, Walker was a 26-year-old lieutenant in the 30th Regiment of Foot (later the East Lancashire Regiment) British Army when the deed for which he was awarded the VC was performed.

On 5 November 1854 at Inkerman, Crimea, Lieutenant Walker jumped over a wall in the face of two battalions of Russian Infantry which were marching towards it. This act was to encourage the men, by example, to advance against such odds - which they did and succeeded in driving back both battalions.

His Victoria Cross was until recently on display at The Buffs Regimental Museum, Canterbury, England. With the rest of that museum's collections, it has now been transferred to the National Army Museum, where it is not currently on display.

Mark Walker (North Carolina politician)

Bradley Mark Walker (born May 20, 1969) is a pastor from the state of North Carolina and a Republican Party member of the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina's 6th congressional district. Before winning the 2014 general election, Walker had not held elected office previously.

Biography

Walker was born in 1969 in Dothan, Alabama and grew up in the panhandle of Florida. The son of an Independent Baptist minister, Walker eventually attended Trinity Baptist College for a time before moving with his family to Houston, Texas.

From there, Walker moved to the Piedmont Triad over 20 years ago. He married Kelly Sears, a trauma nurse, and worked for Flow Automotive. Several years later, Walker returned to college to pursue the ministry. He attended Piedmont Baptist College, now Piedmont International University, and graduated with a B.A. in Biblical Studies. Walker was ordained in the Southern Baptist denomination. He first worked at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Walker has spent most of ministry career as a worship pastor. He has also served as an executive pastor and lead pastor.
