Mark Nicholls

Mark Nicholls (born 30 May 1977) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker from 1994 until 2012, most notably in the Premier League for Chelsea. He was assistant manager to Neil Shipperley at North Greenford United before the pair left after the 2011-12 season. He then returned with Shipperley to North Greenford United in October 2012 after Jon-Barrie Bates left by mutual consent.

He also played in the Football League for Reading, Grimsby Town, Colchester United and Torquay United, as well as playing in the Scottish Football League for Partick Thistle, Hamilton Academical and Clydebank.

Chelsea

Nicholls was born in Hillingdon, London. A forward, he began his career as a trainee with Chelsea, turning professional in August 1995. He made his league debut in the 1996–97 season, after gaining experience on loan with non-league Chertsey Town, but made a real breakthrough into the Chelsea side the following season, appearing in half of Chelsea's Premier League games. However, as the number of foreign imports grew at Stamford Bridge, he fell further out of the reckoning and joined Reading on loan in December 1999 with a view to a permanent move. The move fell through and on 10 February he returned to a peripheral role at Stamford Bridge. He is remembered at Chelsea for scoring a brace against Coventry City in the league, and also for scoring one of the goals as Chelsea won 6–1 at rivals Tottenham Hotspur in December 1997.

Mark Nicholls (born 5 January 1990) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the Melbourne Storm in the National Rugby League. He plays at prop and second-row and previously played for the Canberra Raiders.

Background

Born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Nicholls played his junior rugby league for the Leeton Raiders and Gungahlin Bulls, before being signed by the Canberra Raiders.

Playing career

Early career

From 2008 to 2010, Nicholls played for the Canberra Raiders' NYC team. In October 2010, he played for the Junior Kangaroos against the Junior Kiwis.

2012

In Round 17 of the 2012 NRL season, Nicholls made his NRL debut for the Raiders against the St. George Illawarra Dragons. He went on to play 12 consecutive games that year, coming off the bench as a prop.

2013

On 25 April, Nicholls re-signed with the Raiders on a 2-year contract.

2014

On 9 July, Nicholls played for the New South Wales Residents against the Queensland Residents.
