Mark Jenkins is a celebrity personal fitness trainer who has worked with Mary J. Blige, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Beyoncé, Benny Medina, Johnnie Cochran, Tyler Perry, Angie Martinez, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Eve, Q-Tip, L.A. Reid, Anthony Hamilton, Susan Taylor, Missy Elliott, Brandy, D'Angelo and N.O.R.E.

Early life

Jenkins was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As a youth, he was teased by his classmates for being overweight. As an adolescent, Jenkins felt there was an important link between healthy fitness and self-esteem. After he graduated high school, Jenkins enlisted in the Navy in a last attempt to lose weight. He started training with a fellow officer and ultimately caught the attention of the ranking officer who assigned Jenkins to train all enlisted personnel suffering from obesity.

Career

Jenkins returned to New York and began training at a local gym while working at a post office. The gym was located directly across the street from Worldwide Plaza, home to record label executives and artists including R&B vocalist Brandy, who became one of his first clients. The next big break came in 2000 when he started working with soul singer D'Angelo and became known as the man responsible for his newly formed sculpted body in the music video "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" off the platinum album Voodoo. After that his celebrity roster of clients continued to grow.

Mark Jenkins (born 1960, Wales) is a British musician and music writer. He has done articles for various UK and international magazines including Melody Maker, New Musical Express, Music Week, International Musician, Keyboard (US), and Mac Format, and has also written a book on the subject called Analog Synthesizers.

Jenkins studied at BA Arts course at university; he worked in the university television and electronic music studios to create his first live performances. Graduating with a BA Honours degree, he became Music Editor of the magazine Electronics & Music Maker. Working on other publications where he interviewed artists including Philip Glass, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, he gave further performances at London Olympia, the London Planetarium and the Royal Festival Hall among other venues.

Jenkins formed the label AMP Music in 1983. He has performed with David Vorhaus as White Noise at venues including the Bochum Planetarium, Germany, and the All Tomorrow's Parties festival. He also performed at the Peter Harrison Planetarium at The Royal Observatory in 2009. In 2012 Taylor & Francis published a new book by Jenkins, "iPad Music". He currently lives in London.

Mark Jenkins (artist)

Mark Jenkins (born 1970) is an American artist most widely known for his sculptural street installations. Jenkins' practice of street art is to use the "street as a stage" where his sculptures interact with the surrounding environment including passersby who unknowingly become actors. His installations often draw the attention of the police. His work has been described as whimsical, macabre, shocking and situationist. Jenkins cites Juan Muñoz as his initial inspiration.

In addition to creating art, he also teaches his sculpture techniques and installation practices through workshops. He currently lives in Washington, DC.

History

Jenkins was born in Alexandria, Virginia, but first began experimenting with tape as a casting medium for creating sculpture in 2003 while living in Rio de Janeiro. Wrapping the tape in reverse and then resealing it, he was able to make casts of objects including himself. One of his first street projects was a series of clear tape self casts that he installed on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Jenkins became immediately interested in the reactions of the people and considered his installation as much a social experiment as an art project.

Mark Jenkins (actor)

Mark Jenkins (born May 8, 1943) is an American actor. He portrayed the title character in the short-lived 1972 television series Young Dr. Kildare. One of his film portrayals was that of Lt. Shawn (Piedmont Team) Stone in the film adaptation of Michael Crichton's The Andromeda Strain (1971).
