Mark Evans is an English veterinary surgeon turned television presenter.

Early and personal life

Educated at Warwick School, Evans failed his A Levels the first time due to completing restoration work on a Triumph Herald 13/60 convertible. He graduated from the Royal Veterinary College at the University of London, where he won the silver medal for his surgical skills, and also met his wife Sarah. The couple have two sons, and live in Guildford, Surrey.

Veterinarian

Evans developed his career in private veterinary practise, mainly with dogs, cats and horses at Yew Tree practise in the Surrey Hills. He has written 12 books on animal care and welfare. He was the RSPCA's chief veterinary advisor between 2007 and 2010, causing some controversy in August 2008 after branding show dogs and dog shows as a "parade of mutants", resulting in the RSPCA withdrawing its support that year to the annual Crufts dog show.

Television

Evan's television career started in 1990 when he complained about an item on TV-am that made fun of fat pets, and was invited as a guest on the show giving advice to the owner of an obese cat.

Mark Evans (musician)

Mark Whitmore Evans (born 2 March 1956) is an Australian bass guitarist who was an early member of hard rock band AC/DC from March 1975 to June 1977. His playing featured on their albums T.N.T, High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and '74 Jailbreak. Evans has played for numerous other groups, sometimes on lead guitar, including Finch (aka Contraband), Cheetah, Swanee, Heaven and The Party Boys. Evans' autobiography, Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC was released in December 2011.

Biography

Mark Whitmore Evans was born on 2 March 1956 and raised in Melbourne, Australia. He was originally a guitarist and early in 1975 he was introduced to hard rockers AC/DC at the Station Hotel, Melbourne, by his friend and the band's roadie, Steve McGrath. AC/DC had formed in 1973 and had released a debut album, High Voltage, in 1974. By January 1975, Malcolm Young was playing bass guitar in a four-piece line up alongside his brother Angus Young on lead guitar, Phil Rudd on drums and Bon Scott on vocals. Evans had been working as a clerk in the pay section of the Postmaster-General's Department when he auditioned for AC/DC and joined in March on bass guitar, allowing Malcolm to switch back to rhythm guitar.
