Danger Theatre

Danger Theatre is an American half-hour comedy anthology series for television, produced by Universal Studios and originally aired on the American Fox network in 1993.

With two exceptions, each half-hour-long show consisted of two comedy segments, each a spoof of a familiar action/anthology format. The style of the comedy was somewhat similar to that of films like Airplane! and TV shows like Police Squad!

Robert Vaughn was the host for each episode, introducing to camera each fifteen-minute segment with mock earnestness. The jokes ranged from humorous or preposterous dialogue to visual gags and slapstick designed to poke fun at the serious dramatic formats being lampooned.

Danger Theatre ran for seven episodes before cancellation, but was syndicated beyond the United States, airing in the United Kingdom on the BBC in 1994.

The Searcher

One segment in each episode centered on a motorbike-riding, leather-clad hero called only “The Searcher", played by Diedrich Bader. A spoof of both the stereotypical motorbiking renegade from movies and the “one man on a mission” format of series such as Knight Rider, Renegade, and many others, this segment is perhaps the most commonly remembered element of the series.

Marina del Rey, California

Marina del Rey is an affluent unincorporated seaside community and census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California. A Westside locale, the population was 8,866 at the 2010 census. Fisherman's Village offers a view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, the Marina, the world's largest man-made small craft harbor with 19 marinas with capacity for 5,300 boats and is home port to approximately 6,500 boats. The harbor, the Los Angeles Times said in 1997, is "perhaps the county's most valuable resource".

History

Prior to its development as a small craft harbor, the land occupied by Marina del Rey was a salt-marsh fed by fresh water from Ballona Creek, frequented by duck hunters and few others. Burton W. Chace, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, referred to the area as mud flats, though today the area would more properly be referred to as wetlands.

In the mid-19th century, Moye C. Wicks and Louis Mesmer thought of turning this Playa del Rey estuary into a commercial port. He formed the Ballona Development Company in 1888 to develop the area, but three years later the company went bankrupt.

Marina del Rey (song)

"Marina del Rey" is a song recorded by American country music artist George Strait. It was released in September 1982 as the second single from his album Strait from the Heart, which went on to be certified platinum by the RIAA. It peaked at number 6 in the United States, and number 2 in Canada. The song is set in Marina del Rey, California, and it is structured as a slow romantic ballad. Longtime country songwriters Frank Dycus and Dean Dillon composed the tune.

Content

The song is about a love affair on the beach. Two people get together and have a good time during a vacation. They create many memories and then head their separate ways – back to their normal lives.

Critical reception

Kevin John Coyne of Country Universe gave the song a B grade, saying that the lyrics are "appropriately longing and sentimental for times gone by, but Strait hasn’t yet developed enough as a vocalist to pull off the mature performance required."

    PLAYLIST TIME:

    Marina Del Rey

    by: George Strait

We said good-bye in Marina Del Rey.
"I had a good time" was the last thing I heard her say, as I walked away.
And on the plane back to Tennessee
My mind comes across her memory
And yesterday in Marina Del Rey.
    Chorus:
On a hidden beach, under a golden sun,
She spread a blanket that we laid down on,
And loved the world away in Marina Del Rey.
And as we looked into each other's eyes,
We found our bodies lost in paradise,
Like castaways in Marina Del Rey.
Like the ocean tides highs and lows
Love sometimes comes and goes away, in Marina Del Rey.
And as this plane is touching down,
Tears touch my eyes for I have found
My heart has stayed in Marina Del Rey.
    Chorus
