Mare Nostrum (video game)

Mare Nostrum is a multiplayer team-based first-person action video game, developed as a total conversion modification of Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

The overall aim of the modification is to incorporate the African, Mediterranean and Middle East theatres of World War II as a supplement to the Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 title.

Gameplay

Mare Nostrum game play is similar to its parent game, in that players assume the role of an individual infantryman or tank crew during World War II battles in an online multiplayer environment. Each team then attempts to accomplish objectives varying by game level. Most play revolves around an Attack and Defend style, whereby one team has to take objective areas from the opposing team in order to claim victory.

History

The Mare Nostrum team was formed 8 Aug 2006 with the merger of 2 separate Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 modification teams; Campagna Italiana team and the Burning Sands team.

The Mare Nostrum game project is current subdivided into two phases which reflects the original merger. The first is titled 'Mare Nostrum: Afrikafeldzug 40-43' which concentrates on the actions during the North African Campaign. The second, unreleased, phase is titled 'Mare Nostrum: Campagna Italiana 43-45', and will encompass actions in and around Sicily and main land Italy.

Mare Nostrum (1948 film)

Mare Nostrum (English:Our Sea) is a 1948 Italian-Spanish drama film directed by Rafael Gil and starring María Félix, Fernando Rey and Guillermo Marín. The title refers to a Latin phrase for the Mediterranean Sea. A Spanish sailor becomes mixed up with a mysterious foreign spy at the time of the First World War.

It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez which had previously been turned into 1926 American silent film.

Mare'

Mare' (Arabic: مارع‎, also spelled Marea) is a town 25 kilometers north of Aleppo in northern Syria. It is the largest town and the administrative centre of the Mare' nahiyah in the Azaz District of the Aleppo Governorate. Nearby localities include Shaykh Issa and Tell Rifaat to the west, A'zaz to the northwest, Dabiq to the northeast, al-Bab to the southeast, and Maarat Umm Hawsh and Herbel to the south. According to the Syria Central Bureau of Statistics, it had a population of 16,904 in the 2004 census, out of a total population in the Mare' nahiyah of 39,306.

Syrian Civil War

Mare' has been affected by the ongoing Syrian uprising against the government of Bashar al-Assad. The Ibn Walid brigade of the opposition Free Syrian Army was formed in the town in August 2012.

As of January 2015, Mare' is controlled by the Islamic Front.
