Mar Ivanios College is an educational institutuion situated in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, India. The college is located on a small scenic hilltop with a sprawling campus area of hundreds of acres in Bethany Hills, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram.
The motto of the college is ‘Veritas Vos Liberabit’ which means ‘Truth shall Liberate You’.
The alumni association AMICOS (Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students) has chapters in different countries.
The College was founded in 1949 as an affiliated college of the then University of Travancore, later on under the Kerala University. The college is the dream child of the Late Archbishop Servant of God Mar Ivanios of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.
Mar Ivanios College offers 10 degree courses and 8 post-graduate courses. The Departments of Zoology, Chemistry and Physics are recognized research centres. It also offers facilities for an Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) centre and an International Development Enterprises (IDE) centre.
Archbishop Aboon Geevarghese Mar Ivanios (born 21 September 1882 as Geevarghese Panickeruveetil) was the first Metropolitan Archbishop of Trivandrum and the founder of the Reunion Movement in Malankara Apostolic Church He is the founder of Bethany Ashram order of monks and Bethany madom Order Of Nuns. He was the first M.A. degree holder in the Malankara Church. He also served as the Principal of the Kottayam M.D seminary High School and as a professor at the Serampore College.
Geevarghese Panicker was born in Mavelikkara, Kerala, India, on 21 September 1882 to Thomas Panicker and Annamma Panicker, a descendant of the aristocratic tharavad of Panickervettil in Mavelikara within the erst-while Indian princely state of Travancore currently in the Alappuzha district of Kerala.
