Map

A map is a symbolic depiction highlighting relationships between elements of some space, such as objects, regions, and themes.

Many maps are static two-dimensional, geometrically accurate (or approximately accurate) representations of three-dimensional space, while others are dynamic or interactive, even three-dimensional. Although most commonly used to depict geography, maps may represent any space, real or imagined, without regard to context or scale; e.g. brain mapping, DNA mapping and extraterrestrial mapping.

Although the earliest maps known are of the heavens, geographic maps of territory have a very long tradition and exist from ancient times. The word "map" comes from the medieval Latin Mappa mundi, wherein mappa meant napkin or cloth and mundi the world. Thus, "map" became the shortened term referring to a two-dimensional representation of the surface of the world.

Cartography or map-making is the study and practice of crafting representations of the Earth upon a flat surface (see History of cartography), and one who makes maps is called a cartographer.

Maps (Maroon 5 song)

"Maps" is a song by American band Maroon 5. The song was released on June 16, 2014, as the lead single from their fifth studio album V.

Composition

The song was written by Adam Levine, Ammar Malik, Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco and Noel Zancanella, and produced by the latter three. Blanco and Malik have previously teamed with Maroon 5 on the songs "Moves like Jagger" and "Payphone", while Tedder and Zancanella have worked with the group on the songs "Love Somebody" and "Lucky Strike". "Maps" is an up-tempo pop track, composed in the key of C# minor (with the main chord progression of A–B–C#m - both in the verses and the chorus - and F#m–G#m-G#7 in the pre-chorus), that contains a "breezy guitar lick". It marks Maroon 5's further departure from the funkier sound for which the band was originally known. The official remix features a new verse from Big Sean and new production beats.

Lyrically, the song is about "the search for love, particularly a love that has been lost and needs to be found". In the chorus, Adam Levine sings "All the roads you took came back to me / So I'm following the map that leads to you."

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly

Sam Duckworth is an English musician formerly known as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. He is sometimes referred to as Get Cape, Cape, GCWCF and Slam Dunkworth (the latter title apparently first coined by Emmy The Great). According to Duckworth, his stage name comes from Retro Gamer magazine, from an article about superhero games such as Batman containing the heading "Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly".

Music career

Sam grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Get Cape was signed to Atlantic Records in March 2006, after playing many gigs, both with punk rock band Silverskin and as Get Cape. As Get Cape, Duckworth has collaborated with Billy Bragg, Nitin Sawhney, Shlomo, Killa Kela, Baba Maal, Flea, Kate Nash, and many others with his participation in many events for Africa Express.

Sam co-organised The Demolition Ball - the last night at the London Astoria venue before it was knocked down in January 2009. Get Cape also headlined the Astoria for his 21st birthday party.

After 10 years, Sam Duckworth decided to end Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, to continue to make music under his own name. The last ever show under the 'Get Cape' moniker was held at The Forum, Kentish Town on 12 September 2014.

Cheryl

Cheryl is a female given name common in English speaking countries.

The name appeared in the early 20th century and was most popular during the early Cold War period. In America it was most popular from the 1940s to early 1980s and in the UK from the 1950s to early 1990s.

There are several prevailing theories about its etymology. The most common is that it has Italo-Celtic roots and is an Anglicised version of either the French name Cherie (from Latin Cara, being "beloved"; see also Carissa (name)) or the Welsh name Carys (a cognate of "Cara"), modelled on names such as Meryl and Beryl that were popular during the early decades of the 20th century.

A less popular theory is that the name is Germanic in origin and is a feminine version of the Germanic male name Charles, which means "free man". An Anglo-Saxon (male) variant of Charles is Ceorl. Feminine variations of Charles include Charlotte, Carly, Carla and Caroline.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

Cheryl Ann Fernandez-Versini (née Tweedy, formerly Cole; born 30 June 1983) is an English singer, dancer, and television personality who is known by the mononym Cheryl in the context of her recording promotions. She rose to fame in late 2002 when she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals on ITV. The programme announced that Fernandez-Versini had won a place as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud. The group's line-up remained the same throughout their history and during that time the group achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles in the United Kingdom (including four number one singles) and six platinum albums (two of which went to number one) and earned five Brit Award nominations from 2005 to 2010. At the 2009 Brit Awards, Girls Aloud won Best Single with their song "The Promise". In early 2013, the group announced that they had split up.

Fernandez-Versini embarked on a solo career and released her first solo studio album 3 Words (2009). The album became a commercial success and spawned three successful singles including the lead single from the album, "Fight for This Love," which debuted at number one on the UK charts, becoming the best selling single of the year. 2010 saw the release of Fernandez-Versini's second studio album Messy Little Raindrops, which produced two singles, the first being "Promise This" which also debuted at number one. Fernandez-Versini released her third solo album A Million Lights on 18 June 2012, with lead single "Call My Name" becoming her third number one single.Only Human was released in 2014 and spawned three singles including "Crazy Stupid Love" and "I Don't Care". Both singles went to number one in the UK and made Fernandez-Versini the first British female to have five number ones in the UK. The singer still holds the record, jointly with Jess Glynne.

Cheryl Brady

Cheryl Nicolette Brady is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Bronagh Waugh. The character first appeared on-screen on 25 November 2008, during the first series of the Hollyoaks spin-off, Hollyoaks Later, as the former love interest of Malachy Fisher. She made her first appearance in main Hollyoaks episodes in July 2009, introduced to the serial by series producer, Lucy Allan. In 2010 when Paul Marquess began producing the serial, he felt that Cheryl was being used in the wrong way, subsequently making her a central character to the show. It was announced on 1 February 2013 that Waugh quit her role. Cheryl departed Hollyoaks on 22 March 2013, after five and half years on the show.

Background

The character of Cheryl was created to help correctly show a cross-section of young people in British society. Cheryl was given immediate links to Malachy Fisher (Glen Wallace), being his ex-girlfriend and Kris Fisher (Gerard McCarthy) who also knew her from his time living in Belfast. When Cheryl was introduced to the main cast she had already established links with character Zak Ramsey (Kent Riley), who she had previously shared a fling with. Series producer Lucy Allan also stated she had big plans for the character. Bronagh Waugh and Ricky Whittle (Calvin Valentine) discussed why they believed the character was introduced into the main series stating: "I think they brought me in to lighten it [Hollyoaks] up." and "They have brought Cheryl in to introduce a bit of comedy, a bit more fun."
