Regal Entertainment

Regal Entertainment, Inc. is a Philippine filmmaking and entertainment firm that was established by Lily Monteverde in 1962. It has produced movies of all genres.

History

In the beginning, Mother Lily and his father Remy put up a popcorn stand, 5 decades ago at the Podmon Theater in C.M. Recto, Manila (which is served as the head office of Regal before it moved to the Valencia studio). Regal Films was started by distributing foreign films, such as That Man from Istabul, Marsha and All Mine to Give, pouring funds for Mother Lily, to produce a local movie. In 1976, Mother Lily ask permission to her father to produce her first project, "Kayod sa Umaga, Kayod sa Gabi", that went into a big hit then in theaters. Alma Moreno, was the first star that give an exclusive contract with Regal, or commonly known as Regal Babies. In its early years, Regal Films produced local movies with a "mature" and "daring" style, although it also produced "wholesome" pictures. In 1987, it ventured in local television, "Regal Television" produces several entertainment programs in '80s and '90s and aired in three different channels, ABS-CBN 2, GMA 7 and IBC 13.

Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love

Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love is the sixth installment in the Mano Po film franchise, following Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di in 2006. Produced by Regal Entertainment, Mano Po 6 marks the first appearance of the Sharon Cuneta in a Regal movie. Co-starring with Sharon are: Zsa Zsa Padilla (in her third Mano Po role), Christopher De Leon, Boots Anson-Roa (fourth appearance in the Mano Po series), Kris Aquino (in her third Mano Po role), Dennis Trillo (in another Mano Po appearance, last seen in Mano Po III: My Love), former ABS-CBN talent and GMA actress Heart Evangelista, and Ciara Sotto. Joel Lamangan, who had last worked with Sharon in Walang Kapalit, was at the helm, in his fifth Mano Po directorial job.

The movie which was a 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival entry had its theater run from 25 December 2009 to January 2010.

Mano Po

Mano Po is Regal Entertainment's entry for the 2002 Metro Manila Film Festival. The film focuses on the lives of the Chinese-Filipino community. Mano Po stars an all-star cast headed by Maricel Soriano, Richard Gomez, Kris Aquino and Ara Mina. Eddie Garcia and Boots Anson-Roa play the patriarch and matriarch of the Go clan respectively.

The film won the most major awards in the film-awarding bodies, including 12 awards in the 28th Manila Film Festival in 2002. It was named Best Picture, Best Actor (for Eddie Garcia), Best Actress (for Ara Mina), Best Supporting Actress (for Kris Aquino) and Best Director (for Joel Lamangan). Mano Po was among the top-grossing films in time for the Metro Manila Filmfest.

The film's success was followed by another episode, Mano Po 2: My Home and a spin-off, Bahay Kubo: A Pinoy Mano Po! that has released in 2007.

Mano Po (Filipino film series)

The Mano Po (吻手) anthology, produced by Regal Entertainment, is one of the most successful film series produced in the history of Philippine cinema, second only Shake, Rattle & Roll (Filipino film series) (which has a total of 12 film adaptations with three episodes). The series has now six productions and also includes Ako Legal Wife and Bahay Kubo (A Pinoy Mano Po). All episodes are directed by Joel Lamangan, with the exception of Mano Po 2 (2003) which was helmed by Erik Matti. The six series focuses on the ways and traditions of the Chinese-Filipino community.

Another tradition for the cast and crew of the Mano Po series is the visit of several cities in China, including Great Wall of China, Forbidden City in Beijing, and Shanghai; and also in Bangkok, Thailand (for Mano Po III: My Love)
