Mano people

Mano is an ethnic group of Liberia. This group uses the Mano language, which belongs to the Mande language family.

The Mano ethnic group occupy the northeastern part of Liberia known as Nimba County. According to John Gbatu, (1919-2012), a prominent Mano tribal leader, the name Nimba originates with the Mano dialect which in Mano is Niemba Tun. The meaning is Hills on which young maidens will slip and fall.

This is so because the Mano used to worship their god up what is today known as Mt. Nimba in Liberia. they occupied major cities and towns in Niemba such as Ganta, Yekepa, Sanniquellie, and Scalepea amongst others.

According to Stanley Delano Quaye (1985-), a Liberian Historical Economist and Banker and grand son of John Gbatu, the Mano belongs to the Mende speaking group and have had a long history. He narrated that the tribe migrated from Sudan and settled in the Mali empire and subsequently to the republic of Guinea where they formed a Kingdom in the Youmou area. They later migrated to what is Liberia during the term of the thirteen and fourteen centuries, a larger portion arrived during the turn of the Sixteen and seventeen centuries.

People (Australian magazine)

People is a fortnightly Australian lad's mag published by Bauer Media Group. It has been published since 1950. It is not to be confused with the gossip magazine known by that name in the United States; that magazine is published under the name Who in Australia.

People focuses on celebrity interviews and scandal, glamour photography, sex stories sent in by readers, puzzles, crosswords, and a jokes page.

People was reportedly the first weekly magazine in Australia to feature topless models.

People was first published in 1950; it covered "everything from news, to scandals, to true crime stories."

Pix, a weekly men's magazine, merged with People in 1972.

People magazine started a "Covergirl of the Year" quest in the early 80s with Samantha Fox an early winner. The 1985 winner was Carolyn Kent. People had a deliberate policy of searching for "average Aussie birds" from 1985 onwards, trying to veer away from a reliance on U.K. Page 3 girl pictorials (though Page 3 girls still appeared, and indeed, Tracey Coleman was named Covergirl of the year in 1992 and 1994). Mostly scouted by and photographed by Walter Glover, many popular "average" girls became very popular and frequent cover girls. These include Lynda Lewis, Lisa Russell, Narelle Nixon, Melinda Smith, Raquel Samuels, Tanja Adams (real name Tanja Adamiak) and Belinda Harrow (who also appeared as the debut cover–centre of Picture magazine in 1988.

The Sunday People

The Sunday People is a British tabloid Sunday newspaper, founded as The People on 16 October 1881.

It is published by the Trinity Mirror Group, and shares a website with the Mirror papers. In July 2011 it had an average Sunday circulation of 806,544. By January 2014 the circulation had shrunk to 374,820. Despite its tagline claim to be a "truly independent" newspaper, The People endorsed the Labour Party at the 2015 general election on the recommendation of polling data from its readers.

History

Moshe’s father, Mordechai Mano, immigrated to Israel in the 1930s along with a group of pioneers who built the Port of Haifa. Abba Hushi, then chairman of the Haifa Workers Council, traveled to Thessaloniki with the aim of motivating Jewish workers to immigrate to what was then the British mandate of Palestine. Among the 100 households that agreed to take the step were members of the Mano family, including Moshe Mano’s father, Mordechai, who was then nine years old. Mordechai became a pioneer in Israeli shipping from the 1940s, and was well known in the shipping industry both in Israel and worldwide.

Nagoor Babu known by his stage name Mano is an Indian playback singer, voice-over artist, actor, producer, television anchor and music composer. He is a recipient of several awards such as the Nandi Awards from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Mano has recorded more than 30,000 songs for various Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Oriya and Bollywood films. He has also performed for over 3000 live concerts across the continents. Notably, he has recorded 2,000 songs for Maestro Ilayaraja.

Early life and background

Mano was born as Nagoor Babu in Sattenapalli, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh state. His father Rasool, was a musician in the All India Radio, Vijayawada division and his mother Shaheeda, was a popular Stage actress. Inspired heavily by his mother, Mano joined the stage theater and played many historical characters which also involved singing live songs in his own voice. He soon started taking formal training of carnatic classical music under the vocalist Nedunuri Krishnamurthy. Subsequently, he started his film acting career in the late 1970s. He featured as a supporting character in films such as Rangoon Rowdy.
