Maechi

Maechi or Mae chee (Thai: แม่ชี; IPA: [mɛ̂ː.tɕʰiː]) are Buddhist laywomen in Thailand who have dedicated their life to religion, vowing celibacy, living an ascetic life and holding eight or even ten precepts (instead of lay Buddhists' five). They occupy a position somewhere between that of an ordinary lay follower and an ordained monastic and similar to that of the sāmaṇerī.

It is still illegal for women to take full ordination as a Buddhist nun (Bhikkhuni) in Thailand because of a 1928 law created by the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. He based this on the fact that Gautama Buddha allowed senior bhikkhunis to initiate new women into the order. Citing the belief that the Theravada bhikkhuni sangha had died out centuries earlier, the patriarch commanded that any Thai monk who ordained a female "is said to conduct what the Buddha has not prescribed, to revoke what the Buddha has laid down, and to be an enemy of the holy Religion...". The most recent case brought to the Supreme Court of Thailand is that of Phothirak, a former monk who has been ejected from the Thai sangha after being convicted of breaching the vinaya repeatedly. Phothirak then created his own sect of Buddhism, Santi Asoke, and ordained about 80 bhikkhunis in 1998, leading to his imprisonment for 66 months on several successive counts of "causing schism amongst the religion".

Mae

Mae is an American rock band that formed in Norfolk, Virginia in 2001. The band's name is an acronym for "Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience", based on a course taken by drummer Jacob Marshall while a student at Old Dominion University.

History

Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003. They released their second full-length album, The Everglow, in 2005. The band toured extensively to promote it, and also performed on the Vans Warped Tour. Mae re-released The Everglow in 2006, adding three new songs and a two-hour DVD.

Later in 2006, the band signed to Capitol Records for their third full-length album. Mae began recording the album in the fall of 2006, working with producer Howard Benson (who has produced albums for Saosin, My Chemical Romance, Blindside, and Relient K). The album, titled Singularity, was released on August 14, 2007. On June 19, 2007, the band released the first single from Singularity, "Sometimes I Can't Make It Alone".

    Beautiful Girl

    by: Meja

Let me take you to this place
it's not so very far away
to meet the only peace of mind
Just follow me and take my hand
write a memo in the sand
    sign you name and...
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
To sparkle like the water in the sky
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
This beautiful girl who's shining inside
The wind that whispers in you ear
Makes you laugh at the things you hear
You say you're happy as can be
Let's take a walk down to the shore
to find the memories from before
    so sign you name and......
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
To sparkle like the diamond in the sky
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
    This beautiful girl
    who's shining from inside
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
To sparkle like the water in the sky
    Come into my world
    I'll be your beautiful girl
    This beautiful girl
    who's shining from inside
    This beautiful girl
