Macizo de Teno

The Teno massif (Spanish: Macizo de Teno) is one of three volcanic formations that gave rise to Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. It is located in the northwestern part of the island between the towns of Santiago del Teide, Los Silos, El Tanque and Buenavista del Norte. The volcanic massif, emerged during the last 5 to 7 million years, is furrowed by deep ravines and ends abruptly in the sea, in an area known as Los Gigantes, a series of high cliffs that plummet over the sea. The villages known as Masca, Teno Alto, Los Carrizales, El Palmar, Las Portelas and Las Lagunetas preserve the old agricultural traditions of Canary Islands.

The Teno Rural Park is 8063 hectares its features are basaltic lava flows and its plant and floristic diversity that varies widely with each insular microclimate. The zones known as Monte del Agua and Laderas del Baracán are renowned for their forests of laurel typical of the vegetation of Macaronesia. Euphorbia balsamifera and Carthamus lanatus, a variety of thistle abound in coastal areas.

Teno

Teno is a Chilean city and commune in the Curicó Province, Maule Region. A large percentage of inhabitants are of mestizo and Mapuche Indian origin. The main economy is agricultural farming and livestock raising, often by huasos or Chilean cowhands and shepherds.

Demographics

According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Teno spans an area of 618.4 km² (239 sq mi) and has 25,596 inhabitants (13,298 men and 12,298 women). Of these, 6,729 (26.3%) lived in urban areas and 18,867 (73.7%) in rural areas. The population grew by 6.3% (1,506 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses.

Administration

As a commune, Teno is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2008-2012 alcalde is Sandra Valenzuela Pérez (UDI).

Within the electoral divisions of Chile, Teno is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Roberto León (PDC) and Celso Morales (UDI) as part of the 36th electoral district, (together with Curicó, Romeral, Molina, Sagrada Familia, Hualañé, Licantén, Vichuquén and Rauco). The commune is represented in the Senate by Juan Antonio Coloma Correa (UDI) and Andrés Zaldívar Larraín (PDC) as part of the 10th senatorial constituency (Maule-North).

Tana (Norway)

The Tana (Finnish: Teno or Tenojoki; Northern Sami: Deatnu; Norwegian: Tanaelva; Swedish: Tana älv), is a 361-kilometre (224 mi) long river in the Sápmi area of northern Scandinavia. The river flows through Finnmark county, Norway and the Lapland region of Finland. The Sámi name means "Great River". The main tributaries of Tana are Anarjohka and Karasjohka.

Geography

In its upper course it runs for 256 km (159 mi) along the Finnish–Norwegian border, between the municipalities of Utsjoki, Finland and Karasjok and Tana, Norway. The river is the fifth longest in Norway. The last 105 kilometres (65 mi) of the river run through the municipality of Tana in Norway. The river discharges into the Tanafjorden, one of the largest and most natural/virgin river deltas in Europe. The delta is protected and is an important home to wetland birds. There are large deposits of sand in the delta that are exposed sandbars at low tide.

Fishing

The Tana is well known for its excellent salmon fishery and is the most productive salmon river in Finland and Norway. The world's record for Atlantic salmon is held by a salmon caught on the Tana; it was 36 kilograms (79 lb) and was taken in 1929 by the late Nils Mathis Walle.
