Machi (video game)

Machi (街^?, literally "City") is a visual novel adventure game developed and published by Chunsoft and released in Japan for the Sega Saturn in 1998. It was later released for the Sony PlayStation in 1999, published as the third entry in the "Sound Novel Evolution" series, and retitled Machi: Unmei no Kousaten (街 〜運命の交差点〜, lit. "City: The Intersection of Fate"). Eventually, the game was remade for the PlayStation Portable, now titled Machi: Unmei no Kousaten: Tokubetsuhen (街 〜運命の交差点〜 特別篇, lit. "City: The Intersection of Fate － Special Version") and was released in 2006.

Focusing mostly on storytelling, the game is described by its creators as a "sound novel" that focuses on eight protagonists and their adventures and conflicts in the major metropolitan area of Shibuya. Depending on what decisions the player makes during the course of the game, several different endings, both good and bad, can be reached.

List of Hunter × Hunter characters

The Hunter × Hunter manga and anime series features an extensive cast of characters created by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series takes place in a fictional universe where licensed specialists known as Hunters travel the world taking on special jobs ranging from treasure hunting to assassinations. The story focuses on 12-year-old Gon Freecss and his quest to become a Hunter in order to find his father, Ging Freecss, who is himself a famous Hunter. While on his quest, Gon meets and becomes close friends with three other members who are also on a quest to become Hunters for their own reasons.

Gon Freecss

Gon Freecss (ゴン＝フリークス, Gon Furīkusu) is the main protagonist of the Hunter × Hunter series and is known for being an athletic, rustic, and friendly boy. Having spent a lot of time in the woods as a child, he gets along very well with animals. Gon is an Enhancer, who are known for being simple-minded and determined. This determination and talent leads to both potential allies and potential enemies trusting in him and taking his side. He has inhuman senses such as heightened sense of smell and sight, as well as very keen taste. Gon wants to become a Hunter because he wishes to find out the depths of an occupation that would cause a father to choose the profession over being with his own son.

Machi (shaman)

A machi is a traditional healer and religious leader in the Mapuche culture of Chile and Argentina. Machis play significant roles in Mapuche religion. Women are more commonly machis than men.

Description

As a religious authority, a machi leads healing ceremonies, called Machitun. During the machitun, the machi communicates with the spirit world. Machies also serve as advisors, and oracles for their community. In the past, they advised on peace and warfare.

The term is sometimes interchangeable with the word kalku, however, kalku has a usually evil connotation whereas machi is usually considered good; this, however, is not always true since in common use the terms may be interchanged.

The Mapuches live in southern South America mostly in central Chile (Araucanía and Los Lagos) and the adjacent areas of Argentina.

To become a machi, a Mapuche person has to demonstrate character, willpower, and courage, because initiation is long and painful. Usually a person is selected in infancy, based upon the following:

International collaborations

MACHI collaborated with well-known hip-hop artist Missy Elliott after meeting in New York. Missy Elliott was impressed by Taiwanese rap and remixed her well-known song "Work It" with Machi's Jump 2003; resulting in the debut crossover Work it, Jump 2003. Producer Floss P, from Dr. Dre's Aftermath music label, also produced a track "You Can't Do It" for MACHI on their second album 2nd Opus in July 2004. MACHI then looked around Asia and teamed up with Asia's top Turntablist DJ TOMMY from Hong Kong on their third album Superman.
