Ma Wan is an island of Hong Kong, located between Lantau Island and Tsing Yi Island, with an area of 0.97 square kilometres (240 acres). Administratively, it is part of Tsuen Wan District.
The Lantau Link that passes through Ma Wan was constructed in the mid-1990s as part of the Hong Kong Government's Rose Garden plan to connect the new Hong Kong International Airport to the city centre. Its development fostered plans to develop the island. Today, a large part of Ma Wan is occupied by the Park Island apartment complex. A theme park, named Ma Wan Park was built to accompany the housing project, with its first phase opened on 1 July 2007.
Ma Wan has an area of 0.97 square kilometres (0.37 sq mi). It is 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) long and 1.3 kilometres (0.81 mi) wide. Its highest point is Tai Leng Tau (69 metres (226 ft)) in the southeast. Two channels separate Ma Wan and other major islands.
Ma Wan (Chinese: 馬灣) is one of the 18 constituencies in the Tsuen Wan District of Hong Kong which was created in 2015.
The constituency loosely covers the Ma Wan and northern Lantau with the estimated population of 15,126.
Ma Wan (simplified Chinese: 马琬; traditional Chinese: 馬琬; pinyin: Mǎ Wǎn; Wade–Giles: Ma Wan) was a Chinese landscape painter, calligrapher, and poet during the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368). His specific dates of birth and death are not known.
Ma was born in Jiangning (江宁; present-day Nanjing) and later lived in Songjiang. His courtesy name was Wenbi (文璧) and his pseudonyms were Ludunsheng (鲁钝生; lit. "Ungainly One") and Guanyuanren (灌园人; lit. "Garden Irrigation Person"). He was taught by Yang Weizhen. Ma's landscape painting followed the style of Huang Gongwang, utilizing a clear and faint touch.
Ma Wan Viaduct is a viaduct built over Ma Wan, an island in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The viaduct connects the Tsing Ma Bridge and Kap Shui Mun Bridge, and is part of the Lantau Link (formerly known as the Lantau Fixed Crossing) and Route 8. It was opened in 1997 and was built to provide access to the Hong Kong International Airport (Chek Lap Kok Airport) as part of the Airport Core Programme.
It is 503 metres (1,650 ft) long and has six spans (one 80-metre (260 ft) long span, four 87-metre (285 ft) long spans, and one 75-metre (246 ft) long span). It is built using post-tensioned concrete.
The Ma Wan Viaduct has the same cross section as the Tsing Ma and Kap Shui Mun Bridges: a dual three-lane carriageway on the upper deck and two tracks of railway and a two lanes of roadway in the enclosed lower deck. The lanes on the lower deck allow for maintenance and the diversion of traffic during high winds. The railway carries the Tung Chung and Airport Express lines of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR).
