2MFM

Muslim Community Radio (callsign 2MFM) is a community radio station based in Bankstown and broadcasts to Sydney on a city-wide licence. It is a volunteer run organisation and is funded mostly through listener support.

History

The station first broadcast under a temporary licence during Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah beginning in 1995 and then added a weekly Friday broadcast in 1997. A full community broadcasting licence was granted on 24 May 2001.

Programming

Muslim Community Radio broadcasts primarily in Arabic and English.It also prides itself on being a multicultural & multilingual service, broadcasting in Indonesian, Turkish, Urdu and in the Iraqi dialect. The station covers Islamic religious teaching and festivals along with educational and cultural programming.

Heart Cheshire and North East Wales

Heart Cheshire and North East Wales (formerly Marcher Sound and previously MFM 103.4) was an independent radio station broadcasting to north east Wales and Cheshire from its Mold Road studios in Gwersyllt, Wrexham, also shared with Gold and Heart Wirral.

The station was last owned and operated by Global Radio who purchased the previous owner, GCap Media, the group formed by the merger of GWR Group and Capital Radio Group. GWR purchased Marcher Radio Group in October 2000, although the latter remains as the official licensee of the station, which now forms part of Capital North West and Wales.

The station was broadcast from the Wrexham-Rhos Relay, situated just above The Moss near Wrexham, and although it officially broadcast to the Wrexham and Chester areas, it could also be heard in parts of Merseyside and Shropshire.

History

Early years

Originally the flagship staton for what became the Marcher Radio Group, Marcher Sound (Sain-Y-Gororau in Welsh), licensed by the Independent Broadcasting Authority, began broadcasting at 6.30am on Monday 5 September 1983 on 95.4FM and 238 metres (1260 kHz medium wave). The first voice heard on air was the station's chairman, Lord Evans of Claughton and the first track played was Cliff Richard's Wired for Sound. Using the strapline Your station, your sound, Marcher broadcast in both English and Welsh to a potential audience of 660,000 listeners.

MFM 92.6

MFM 92.6 is a campus radio station based in Stellenbosch, South Africa, The station broadcasts in the region of a 20 km radius to approximately 35 000 listeners. The station broadcasts 24/7 and is targeted to the youth market and in particular Stellenbosch University students. It broadcasts in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa and is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters of South Africa (NAB).

History

The station was started in 1995, broadcasting only in the Stellenbosch University's Student Centre.
