M16 mine

The M16 mine is a U.S.-made bounding anti-personnel mine. It was based on captured plans of the World War II era German S-mine and has similar performance. The mine consists of a cast iron body in a thin steel sleeve. A central fuze well on the top of the mine is normally fitted with a pronged M605 pressure and tilt fuze. Sufficient pressure on the prongs or tension on an attached tripwire causes the release of a striker. The freed striker is forced into a percussion cap which ignites a short pyrotechnic delay. The purpose of this delay is to allow the victim to move off the top of the mine, to prevent its upward movement from being blocked. Once the delay has burned through, a 4.5-gram black powder charge is ignited, which launches the inner iron body of the mine up into the air (leaving behind the steel outer sleeve). The charge also ignites a second pair of pyrotechnic delays.

The mine rises to a height of 0.3 to 1.7 meters before one or both of the pyrotechnic delays detonates the main charge of the mine, which sprays high-velocity steel fragments 360° around the point of detonation. These metal fragments have an expected casualty radius of 27 meters for the M16 and M16A1 mines, and out to 30 meters for the M16A2 mine.

Mine is a novel written by American author Robert R. McCammon. It won the 1990 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.

Plot summary

The novel tells the story of Laura Clayborne, a successful journalist, the wife of a stockbroker and mother-to-be. With her life seemingly falling apart, Laura hopes that her newborn son, David, will make her life everything it ought to be.

Mary Terrell, aka Mary Terror, is a survivor of the radical 1960s and a once a member of the fanatical Storm Front Brigade. Mary lives in a hallucinatory world of memories, guns, and above all, murderous rage. After viewing an ad placed in a popular magazine, she becomes convinced that the former leader of the Brigade, Lord Jack, is commanding her to bring him the child she was carrying when her life was suddenly turned upside down.

Mary steals Laura's baby and the manhunt is on. With no help at all Laura sets out on a cross-country trip to reclaim that which is hers. But soon Laura realizes that in order to get back her son and her life she may have to become as savage as the woman she's hunting.

Mine (film)

Mine is a 1985 Turkish drama film directed by Atıf Yılmaz. It was entered into the 14th Moscow International Film Festival.

The Eighth and Ninth Streets Crosstown Line is a public transit line in Manhattan, New York City, United States, running mostly along Eighth Street, Ninth Street, Tenth Street, and Christopher Street through the West Village, Greenwich Village, and East Village. Originally a streetcar line, it is now the M8 bus route, operated by the New York City Transit Authority.

Route description

The M8 begins at the intersection of Christopher and West Streets, on the west side of Manhattan. From West Street to Greenwich Avenue, the bus runs west along Christopher Street and east along West 10th Street. At Greenwich Avenue, the bus runs west along West 9th Street and east along West 8th Street. These become East 9th and East 8th Streets, respectively, east of Fifth Avenue (east of Third Avenue, East 8th Street is known as St. Mark's Place). At Avenue A, both directions cross over to East 10th Street to avoid Tompkins Square Park. The route terminates on East 10th Street, just east of Avenue D.
